Sixers turn attention to Iguodala

Elton Brand's addition and Thaddeus Young's subsequent shift to small forward also affect restricted free agent Andre Iguodala. If Iguodala returns to the Sixers, he most likely will move to shooting guard. A source close to Iguodala said that the team and Iguodala's agent would meet in Las Vegas in the next few days, and that the Sixers asked Iguodala to delay his negotiations so the organization could close the Brand deal. Iguodala averaged 19.9 points per game last season. His status as a restricted free agent means the Sixers can match another team's offer. Last summer, Iguodala rejected the Sixers' offer of a five-year, $57 million contract extension.

he is not a frachise player just anther player in the league

Sixers are serious about getting better..could be a real decent team next year..

July 16, 2008  09:31 AM ET

He's good, but not over 57 million good. He better take it and run. Who turns down 57 million dollars anyway?

July 16, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Okay good, now they have nobody that shoots the 3s

July 16, 2008  09:35 AM ET

I agree 57 is good...

he is not worth 57 million. a good player but not that good. if they are serious about getting better you can't tie up that much cap space for just a good player.

July 16, 2008  09:57 AM ET

he wants more than 12m/year?? That's pretty much what a certain Steve Nash got from PHX

July 16, 2008  09:58 AM ET

I hope the Clipps try to get him.

July 16, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Andre is a stud, keep him

Being surrounded with better personnel will only help Iguodola.. I believe he's worth what it will cost to keep him.

July 16, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Iguodala is a good player. I hate to break it to him....he's now no longer the Sixer's "go-to" guy....Their go-to guy just signed a 5-year $80 million dollar contract....Iguodala showed how much of a go-to guy he was in the playoffs....

I'm not gonna argue that the Sixer's need him on their roster....because they do....but not at the hefty price tag he & his agent thinks he's worth....He'll be lucky to get an offer from a team for $9 million a year...

That 5 year $80 million dollar contract won't get you anywhere without some help. Both players will me each other better. Some other team will gladly give him what he's asking. Ask LeBron. The 6ers have the makings of a contender in the East. Pay the man and play ball. There was no Jordan until Pippen.

July 16, 2008  11:35 AM ET

...M-A-K-E each other better.

July 16, 2008  12:47 PM ET

They need him if they want a shot at getting far in the playoffs. Brand was a good pickup and they were smart to get rid of O'Neal but they still need AI. 57 million is a lot to pay to him but he is the face of the franchise now and you usually reward those guys.

July 16, 2008  12:47 PM ET

they need to keep him, this should be the sixers priority after landing brand.

July 16, 2008  01:04 PM ET

I'd also love to see Lou Williams stay. He's a nice boost off the bench and a tough matchup.

July 16, 2008  01:04 PM ET

yeah this will make them a contender again...

I won't argue what Brand and Iguodala need each other to make the Sixers a contender....but is Iguodala worth $10 -12 million a year? I don't know....his jumpshot is still too inconsistent to be our outside threat. Brand will work under the net....Iguodala will be the slasher too the net....

I want Iguodala on this team....but can you pay him top money for being the #2 option?

I won't argue against the 7-year $56 million they put on the table last year....it put him in line with the contract the other players who were in his draft class received....

They will be contenders because they have a solid PG....solid PF....solid SG....Dalembert I'm not a big fan of....and Thaddeus Young at SF is going to be solid....that alone makes them one of the top 4 teams in the East.
