Chargers obsessed with Patriots

Call it an obsession, a fixation, or at the very least a more than understandable preoccupation. But from top to bottom as an organization, the Chargers have it for the Patriots, in spades. And why not? San Diego has gone a combined 27-9 (.750) the past two seasons, cruising to AFC West titles by five games in 2006 and four in 2007. But San Diego is 0-3 against the NFL's team of the decade in that span, losing twice to New England in the playoffs and once in a much-anticipated Week 2 Sunday night showdown last season. People in the know in San Diego say the quest to conquer the Patriots is all-consuming in Chargers-land, permeating things both large and small. When San Diego selected Arizona cornerback Antoine Cason in the first round this year, sources within the organization say it was all about finding someone to cover dangerous Patriots slot receiver Wes Welker. Another part of the equation was it would allow gifted cover man Antonio Cromartie, the Chargers' Pro Bowl cornerback, to focus like a laser on New England's ultimate play-maker, receiver Randy Moss.

The Charges need receivers. If the Pats are in their heads, then there is no hope for them cuz my boy, Billy O'Belichick, will scheme around them in ways they never imagined.

Of course the Chargers are obsessed with the Patriots. They're the team who has prevented SD from possible Super Bowl glory. Until they can beat NE, their obsession will remain.

They didn't have any problem dropping the Colts in the big game last year... Unfortunately that game sent them into the Pats missing LT, Gates, Rivers (playing but Injured), and several starters on D. They got bit by the injury bug, not that they necessarily were going to topple the Pats, but it skewed the results more then a little bit.

I dislike the Pats as much as anyone but Cason didn't even have a 1st round grade by most teams and now the Chargers are going to put him in the slot to cover Welker? That's the hardest of the 3 CB spots to play because you don't have a sideline helping you with the defense. If they're serious about this, Cason (if he even makes the team or starts) should be at the other corner and whatever warm body is there now should cover the slot.

Welcome to 8-8 guys. Phillip Rivers and Norv Turner aren't going to get better with what's left of Schottenheimer's ghost. LT's body should start to fail him in the next couple of seasons with the pounding he's been taking.

Chargers need some 'good' recievers. Vinny Jackson is mediocore at best. Gates is a beast but everyone know he or LT will get the ball. Need a speed guy in the slot maybe
