Rumors of three-team blockbuster
Posted: Thursday July 17, 2008 07:19AM ET
A hot rumor in NHL circles has Senators GM Bryan Murray discussing a three-way blockbuster with the Blackhawks and Kings, Sun Media has learned. While draft picks and other players might also be involved, the principals appear to be a group of five or six that include a couple of veteran goalies and some of the game's most promising stars. According to insiders, Ottawa would trade netminder Martin Gerber and defenseman Andrej Meszaros to Los Angeles, the Kings would move 20-year-old center Anze Kopitar to Chicago and the Blackhawks would propel goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and either of young blueliners Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to the Senators.

This deal doesnt make sense. Kopitar is a rising star. A legitimate rising star. IF i'm Lombardi......i wouldnt dare trade him,but they have traded away Cammalleri away and nobody saw that one coming. Is Lombardi trying to get rid of all his talent?
The Sens receive the broken Bulin wall? I thought this guy had back problems? No?
The Hawks would look even better up front if this deal was to occur. I'd be surprised though if it did happened.

Report Offensive CommentWhy the hell would LA get rid of Kopitar? They say they want to rebuild then get rid of excellent young talent all for Gerber and Meszaros. Would rather have Kopitar than those two. They need to find a way to trade for Khabibulin till their goalies are ready for the big game.

Report Offensive CommentAbsolutely asinine to think Kopitar's getting traded. I don't know about this guy's track record with having insider info on deals but he blew a tire on this one. Kopitar is the future in LA. NO way this deal goes down.

Report Offensive CommentIs Dave Littlefield running the Kings now? Meszaros is a good defenseman, but you don't give up a 21 year old who scored 32 last year, on a crappy team no less! If I'm Chicago, I run, don't walk ,to get this trade done.

Report Offensive Commentgreat deal for chicago. not so much for la.

Report Offensive Commentyep If I'm Chicago I even throw in a pick to sweeten the deal to get it done quicker. But there's now way this should happen.

Report Offensive Commentthe kings would be stupid to trade kopitar.could happen then i suppose........!

Report Offensive CommentKopitar is the only legit player listed. Meszaros is decent, the Bulin-Wall i guess could rejuvenate if he was traded, but I really wonder what the Kings are thinking. they should be rebuilding, not trading their best players

Report Offensive CommentStranger things have happened but, I can't believe the Kings will part with Anze Kopitar. He is their franchise player!
Mezaros and Gerber for Saint Nick and Cam Barker would be a fair deal. But I wouldn't give up Brent Seabrook!
If Lombardi makes that trade, he ought to be fired immediately!

Report Offensive CommentThis deal can't be real i read other rumors about these three making a trade and Kopitar wasnt listed at one of the Kings' Defensive prospects was and i also saw vermette listed instead of Meszaros. There's no way Lombardi would trade his best player for a number 3 defenceman and a terrible playoff goalie. If this is true though the Hawks better pull the trigger quick. This trade also makes little sense because the Kings need to gain salary so they would need to acquire Khabibulin. To me it sounds like a big rumor to disguise what might really go down.

Report Offensive CommentLA doesnt need another goalie, they got bernier
TOleafsbosoxcolts | 07/17/08, 11:05 AM
Report Offensive CommentSaint Nick to Ottawa for a bag of pucks and a third round pick in next year's draft!
Gerber to L.A. for a bag of pucks and a second round pick in next year's draft.
There! That makes more sense, no?

Report Offensive CommentFirst heard this "rumor" yesterday and I'm still laughing. In the unlikely event that Lombardi is actually considering this trade he needs to have his head examined because something is missing. What a great idea trade your franchise player for an above-average goalie and young defenseman you don't really need. Brilliant!

Report Offensive CommentWe are talking about the Kings here, any other team I would be shocked but with the Kings no.

Report Offensive CommentWon't happen; this isn't true. I heard this earlier too because the Kings are 13 million below the $40 mil salary minimum. The Kings wouldv'e moved Cammy or Visnovsky for Khabibulin. Lombardi moved Cammy because he said there was "zero chance" of signing him at the end of this year.
TOleafs is right, Bernier is their future goalie

Report Offensive CommentAre the Blackhawks are definitely loaded on goalies and Ds? Yes.
Are the senators in need of a reliable netminder? Yes
But whta the Hell would the weakest teaam in the NHL right now et go of one of their promising player and possibly franchise cornerstone... Ah, wait... that's right! Operation Tavares has already started.
Plus, if I were Talon, I'd give the Bullin wall a chance at redemption for a few games before trading him. A guy like Nik could be very valuable down the stretch in the playoffs...

Report Offensive Commentchicago is the HUGE winner if this goes down...CHI should jump all over the trigger to get this done NOW.
