A Michigan bank is suing NHL veteran Sergei Fedorov, saying payments have stopped on more than $2 million in loans. Citizens State Bank filed a lawsuit Monday against Fedorov, a former star with the Detroit Red Wings who now plays for the Washington Capitals. The lawsuit, filed in Macomb County Circuit Court, said Fedorov got loans in 2004 and 2005, one for $1.75 million and another for $500,000. A default notice was sent in May after payments stopped, Citizens State Bank attorney Scott Norton said yesterday. The bank is owed at least $2.1 million in interest and principal, according to the lawsuit.

Sad.....

July 17, 2008  08:27 AM ET

How can you make that much money and owe even a dime...baffles me.

July 17, 2008  08:35 AM ET

Seriously, what is he thinking?? Maybe he should bolt to Russia for some of that taz free money.

July 17, 2008  08:36 AM ET

tax free, that is

July 17, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Is this the guy that got paid $28 million for one season a few years back?

July 17, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Gotta pay the bank

July 17, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Somebody needs to stop spending so much time in the strip bars!

July 17, 2008  09:55 AM ET

On the other side of the coin, however, I would tell the bank..."Gee, I'm sorry, but I only feel like giving you $100,000. I mean after all, if you fail, you only insure up to $100,000 of my money and I have to take the loss so that is all I'm going to give you back is $100,000." If they can do it to us, then we can do it to them. Sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you are the windshield.

You've gotta pay your bills, Serge boy! Once the voltures start circling, you're toast!

Maybe you ought to consider playing out your career in Russia for tax-free money and beyond the reach of these banks grubby fingers.

July 17, 2008  11:29 AM ET

I've heard of high rollers, but how does a guy making his cash still need a $2 million personal loan?

July 17, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Another going to Russia pretty soon...

July 17, 2008  02:12 PM ET

Well, he was married to Anna Kournikova, maybe he's still paying for that expensive little tail. Back in the trunk, Sergei, you're going home. The pay in Russia is outrageous for over the hill players right now.

July 17, 2008  02:54 PM ET

just cause he didn't pay doesn't mean he doesnt have the cash...

who cares what your FICA score is when you are living in Russia with several million in the bank (russian bank that is)

don't think he ever "needed" the loan

Watch more Russian players follow his lead and borrow millions of dolars from US banks and then skip the pond to play in Russia! Who's gonna go get them, "Dog" Chapman? While "Dog" managed to get out of Mexico, Russia is another world!

yep...wouldn't surprise me at all...if you wanted to you could literally steal x millions that way...granted you wouldn't be welcomed at Disney world or Graceland but I think he'll get over it.

July 17, 2008  04:56 PM ET

If he's got any sense he'll pay it back and quickly. People don't generally take too kindly to well-paid public figures shirking their financial responsibilities. And he's not going anywhere for a little while; last I heard he signed with Washington for another year.

July 17, 2008  07:05 PM ET

HE NEVER THREW A CHECK HIS ENTIRE CAREER, WHAT MAKE'S YOU THINK HE'S GONNA WRITE ONE!

July 17, 2008  07:26 PM ET

Whats this guy spending his cash on? Seriously?
bostongm | 07/17/08, 01:18 PM

Apparantly, he must have paid Anna Kournikova over $30 million in hush-money not to reveal that he's impotent.

Oilers4Ever | 07/17/08, 08:41 AM

Yes but it was more than a few years back it was during the 1998 season, in which he only played 43 games.
