Jays want to keep Halladay
Paul Godfrey says Roy Halladay is the Toronto Blue Jays' Derek Jeter. In other words, he won't let him go without a fight. "He's the Derek Jeter of our organization because he epitomizes everything you want in a player on and off the field," the Blue Jays president and chief executive officer said yesterday before the All-Star Game, referring to Jeter, the Yankees' captain and shortstop. "He's a role model. To be quite honest, the things he said [Monday] were just Roy expressing the opinions and concerns he, I and a lot of people have with respect to the way the club has functioned in the last few years. "It's not for lack of money. It's not for lack of trying. But you don't want Roy Halladay to ever think there's no hope of winning in Toronto."

Believe it or not this guy is actually under paid, making 10 million this year. Puts the organization ahead of himself definately not many guys like him in baseball. The jays biggest problem is they need to get rid of jp riccardi and paul godfrey and keep on cito gaston for the long term.

jimmy_billsfan..You are right, he is that good....If he pitched in NY or Boston he would have a cult following by now....He just might be the best starting pitcher in baseball right now.

This guy strings together great year after great year very quietly. Who wouldn't want to see him in their team's starting rotation?

If I was a GM, I would love to have this guy on my team. Most people in the U.S. don't realize how good, and how consistent, this guy is. Right now, I'd take only Brandon Webb over him... and that would be close. He is a stud. I would love to see him pitching in a pennant race.

I think he might have a couple years on his contract left but the Blue Jays will do anything to keep him.

Halladay is the man - a throwback to the days of old when a guy could finish a game. If the Jays could score runs he'e easily have 5+ more wins each year.

Now this guy I might give up something to the Jays if they would even entertain the thought of trading him. He projects over a 162 gsmes to give you at least 16 wins agaisnt eight losses, at least 5 complete games with at least one shutout and about 160 Ks to 50 BBs, (a very good ratio, btw). Who wouldn't want those numbers in their starting five. And if he was on a perennial contender those numbers would probably project even higher, e.g. some of the those losses could wind up being on the won side of the ledger. On a team like the Yanks, BoSox, or even the Tigers or the the Angels this guy could quite possibly win twenty or more every year.

Agreed ... easily a guy I could forgive Cashman for temporarily going back to the old ways and getting. But then, back to the youth movement!!

The Jays should absolutely keep this guy. Halladay is completely underrated because he gets so little media exposure, but he is as good as it gets in MLB today.

The Blue Jays would be crazy to ever let this guy leave. He's one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's a tough, old school type of pitcher and he's a pleasure to watch every time he takes the mound. And I'm not even a Blue Jays fan. He deserves way more credit than he has ever gotten. I wish there were more guys like him in the league.

I think though some of you are missibg the big picture.
NO DOUBT he IS one of the top 3-5 pitchers in the AL........
has had 4-5 HOF seasons already
BUT his team is in the same division as NY & Boston
the Blue Jays simply cannot win....now
He is also 31.....
the Jays NEED to trade him to bolster their minor league talent and
try and be competetive not NOW but in 2-3 years and BEYOND
they could get a MAJOR package from a team that has a deep minor league system.....2-3 pitchers, 2-3 position players......
a Hershel Walker - type deal
He is getting older, has a history of injuries.....
he needs to be traded SOON or his value will go down
