Marlins seek catching options

Posted: Thursday July 17, 2008 07:40AM ET

The Marlins are evaluating available veteran relievers and would be open to adding a quality arm before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline. But though they would like a solution at catcher, they are not enamored with available options, especially offensively, and aren't optimistic about finding a clear upgrade to Matt Treanor. The Marlins have no interest in Washington's Paul Lo Duca and don't believe Colorado's Yorvit Torrealba is a big improvement over what they have. Cincinnati's David Ross (.203 in 2007, .262 in '08) is not viewed as more than a backup stopgap, and Florida likes what it has seen of recent call-up John Baker.

Please take Ross. Will throw in Valentine for free. Take Dusty too.

The Reds could send Ross and Valentine for some fresh grouper and 5 lbs. of shrimp.

The Marlins should try to re-acquire Olivo. He was pretty good when he was there before !!! Speaking of catchers - how come nobody mentions Chris Iannetta of the Rockies ??? I would love to see the Red Sox work a deal for him.
