The Tigers appear willing to include reliever Fernando Rodney in trade offers. The right-hander has been inconsistent since returning from the disabled list.

Oh joy! That's just what the Cards need, an inconsistent reliever. Oh wait, we have a pen full of them.

Thank God that someone in the Tiger organization has finally seen the light on this guy. He CANNOT perform in ANY kind of pressure situation. I hope that they can move him fast. The one thing that we can hope for is that some team bites on a deal. Since pitching is in such demand, some one should want to give him a shot.

The salary dump season has turned into the garage sale season.

July 17, 2008  08:51 AM ET

Rodney was a ONE SEASON wonder, fork 'em!

July 17, 2008  08:55 AM ET

Sad thing is, some team will kick the tires and give him a try.

July 17, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Yup....

And that is

July 17, 2008  09:04 AM ET

He's been getting worse every year. Ugh...ugly looking stat line now too.

July 17, 2008  09:16 AM ET

Thank goodness Dave Dombrowski has finally came to his senses on this guy. He's terrible. The fans hate him. The Tigers NEED help in the bullpen, but getting rid of this guy is a good start.

Todd Jones next anyone?

July 17, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Yeah, we will include him in a trade all right. In the ultra fine print that reads in accepting blah blah you also accept to take Fernando Rodney... Goodluck sucker!

July 17, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Somewhere out there a pitching coach has just enough ego to think he can 'fix' Rodney, or a team is desperate enough to toss the dice and hope a change of scenery will help. EIther way, PLEASE put him on the next thing smokin' out of Detroit. My blood pressure begs you - PLEASE! He is to the bullpen what gasoline is to a forest fire.

July 17, 2008  09:46 AM ET

riddle me this: why would anyone want to trade for inconsistency in the bullpen? is not the goalto get stronger in the pen and not weaker?

PS the only way a team is gonna take him is if he is a throw in where the tiggers are glad to dump him off. (see A Fact's post above) I see him being sent directly to the minors once he is traded in such a deal.
But here is another riddle me: who else could the tiggers package with him that would even entice a team to go for that type of deal?????

July 17, 2008  10:00 AM ET

As much as the Cards need bullpen help, I don't want this guy.

July 17, 2008  11:09 AM ET

The Pirates will be the ones to take him. WHY? Pitching is killen em, and they are the Pirates, and I will always be a fan of the Pirates. My daughter has been born, and gone to prom, and the Pirates have not been competitive since I was still routeing for Barry Bonds to get his second MVP! That's how far back! She was born the same month they lost to the Braves at Three Rivers in "92"! YEAH, GO BO BUCS

Scramson:

Is Jones having that bad of a year? I haven't been following him that close.

July 17, 2008  11:42 AM ET

I been saying this for years that Rondey was a joke. Who would have a hard time getting a pee wee team out.

July 17, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Todd Jones hasen't been terrible. In fact he's been pretty solid.
HOWEVER, it is a Todd Jones staple to enter the 9th....say up by 2 runs. Then he will get 2 outs quickly. THEN he gets all funky and allows a hit or two, a walk, and next thing you know, bases are loaded. Most times Todd gets the the 3rd out.
He's bad don't get me wrong. Zumaya needs another year and then ship Todd off.

July 17, 2008  11:49 AM ET

Todd is more bad to your mental stability than to blowing the save. It's like a soap opera where all the drama comes in the final 5 minutes.

Tigers suck!
