With Yankee Stadium taking the national spotlight this week, the Mets can take solace in the fact that they'll be enjoying a similar platform five years from now - for their new home, Citi Field. The Mets, who are bidding farewell to Shea Stadium this season, are on course to host the 2013 All-Star Game. Given that Shea is not quite beloved, it made more sense for the Mets to showcase Citi Field than to bring more attention upon their current eyesore...Baseball has announced the sites for the 2009 and 2010 Midsummer Classics, with next year's at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, followed by Angel Stadium in Anaheim. The 2011 game is expected to be at Arizona's Chase Field, then Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City in 2012. Then it will be the Mets' turn.

MLB needs to drop the pretense that all teams can host the all-star game and allow the city with the highest payroll to host the game..

seems like Anaheim has had 4 all star games in the last 40 years. 2012 KC watch out

Kansas City? I thought a Major League team was supposed to host the All-Star Game...??

Not taking up with the Royals, but that ballpark is phenomenal! Great place to see a game, and that was before the rennovations.

I've been to several MLB stadiums, and KC was probably the best. Fenway had the history, but KC was just a great experience.

I would also highly recommend the Pirates' park. Nice environs.

TRUTH: The Pirates justed hosted the All-Star game in 2006.

I'll bet that Pappelbon's wife skips this one. Poor Dear.

Field Marshall, you never fail to make me laugh! Keep it up!

its great that the all-star game is returning to NYC, but i don't think that they will be able to do it up like Yankee Stadium did this last week. the problems that i have with new stadiums is there is no history in them..

Actually, the Angels have only hosted two All-Star Games, the last one being in 1989.

Tell it like it is | 07/17/08, 08:56 AM

For someone who takes the moniker, "Tell it like it is," it seems to me that very rarely do you actually know what it's like.

I will agree that the Royal's park was a very plesant surprise -- MUCH nicer than I expected, but to call it the best? Very questionable. Which several parks have you been to? The Metrodome, the Trop, old Cominsky whatever they call where the Marlins play?

Clean-up. Isle 9.

The Metrodome was the worst experience I've had. That place makes a Costco look well-furnished. To make matters worse, it was a 70-degree, beautiful day when I went into that pit for a day game. Depressing.

okay, i have been to Comiskey, Wrigely, the soon to be demolsihed Yankee Stadium, ditt ofor Shea, Fenway, the old Milwaukee ball yard, metrodome (YUK), both florida ball parks, the old Baltimore ball park, Indians, (very nice place & a quaint village: Hi Slinky!), St. Louis, The incarantion before this Pittsburg ball yard, Cincy ( i think Cincy has since built a new place, too), Philly, and of course KCs park. (i think i got them all up to this point)
KC is not even in the top five. Sorry. Nice place but not in the top five.
My choices (and remember I am talking about places i have seen and not the present ball parks that may have been built since i was there) are; Yankee Stadium, Jacobs Field, Fenway (love the coziness and the dimensions of the field: hate the amenitities and seating); Wrigely (Damn nice place with damn nice people, had me a blast here) & Atlanta (see Wrigely's comment). best food that i have had outside of the ball park: right across from Atlanta's stadium: great pulled pork sandwiches! Inside the ball park: Jacob's Field.
A plug for Yankee Tavern next to Dimaggio Plaza & near the court house in the Bronx: great pastrami and corned beef on rye!
