Braves might get more for Tex in offseason

As they continue to gauge potential interest in Mark Teixeira, the Braves remain hopeful that teams will begin to show greater interest as the trade deadline approaches. Based on the responses they've received in the past couple of weeks, the Braves believe they may be better off keeping Teixeira for the remainder of the season and receiving compensation through the draft picks they'd gain if they were to lose him via free agency. With this being said, the Braves aren't actively shopping Teixeira yet. If they go 5-1 coming out of the All-Star break against the Nationals and Marlins, they could go to Philadelphia next week in good position to make a run at the currently front-running Phillies.

Can he pitch?

July 17, 2008  08:33 PM ET

No, but he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

LOL Good one..I hate to see him go. But we need pitching. And please get rid of Hampton.

I live where the double A team plays. The starters are average, but the bullpen is TERRIBLE! So don't look for any up and rising stars from the minors.

The problem is I can't see you getting really good pitching for him since he's a certain rental. I think you'll have to draft them when he refuses arbitration.

Braves are still in the race. They'll keep him.

We need one more starter. Any one seen Charlie Leibrandt? Is Hampton out of his wheelchair? Maybe we can convert Mark Wholers. With GPS he might be able to find the strike zone. We'll tape a Garmin to his forehead and run him out there. And then there's always Buzz Capra or David Neid...or
