When asked about stalled contract negotiations between running back Brian Westbrook and the Eagles earlier this week, agent Fletcher Smith said he was not going to negotiate through the media. Smith, in fact, is not going to negotiate a new deal for Westbrook at all. After becoming increasingly frustrated with contract negotiations between Smith and the team, the superstar running back has fired his agent, The Inquirer learned yesterday from a league source.

Brian deserves his dough. He's a workhorse. Should've fired him years ago, because you are underpaid.

I'll laugh if it's Drew Rosenhaus

And this matters how?

Its funny how a player signs a contract, plays good then wants more money .. How about the Eagles give Westbrook this option: Play well, more money .. Play bad, less money .. Bet ya he'll change his mind real fast ....

This same story was on yesterday, and they stated he hired Drew R. What gives? Did he fire Rosenhaus, re-hire his old agent, and then fire him again? Or is T&R sleeping at the wheel yet again?

July 18, 2008  07:56 AM ET

Nah, it was Lito Sheppard that hired Rosenhaus ...

July 18, 2008  07:59 AM ET

It's not the agents fault...Eagles know he's got a contract so why
change it now? Who cares about this lame news?

"I'll laugh if it's Drew Rosenhaus"

that's an evil thought. it would be ironically funny though..

Not me, Westbrook deserves better.

July 18, 2008  08:45 AM ET

they should give him a little under the table cash for all he did. not restructure his contract. i like what utley said. all athletes play well and want more money right away.

That's hpw NFL contracts work anyway, you get paid off PERFORMANCE. That's why a lot of these guys act crazy over contracts. Football is such a physical sport, if they're the best at what they do, they want to get paid like it. An injury can end it all, and with a weak contract, medical bills could pile sky high. Westbrook is the Eagles, he is by far their best player, PAY HIM!

I gots to feeds ma family.

As well as he has played for the Eagles the last two years, he is no LT...Both will be 30 before the season starts. He has exactly two 1,000 yard seasons (one more than Brandon Jacobs), LT has gained over 10,000 yards, Westbrook 4,500 yds. Durability is an issue with the guy...Short term he is worth big bucks, but to tie up big money over time with the guy( eight years in LT's case) is bad for the team....This will get messy, they are not even close at this point...

If there is a player in the NFL that is underpaid by NFL standards, it is Brian Westbrook. He is 3/4 of the Eagles offense and they are going to wear him out before he has the chance to get a new larger contract.

July 18, 2008  09:59 AM ET

You can't throw numbers like that out there. It's not fair to Westbrook, it's not his fault the Eagles don't use him as a pure running back. He does so much more. You have to look at everything this kid does for the team. He's worth every penny he's asking for. Eagles realize this and will get it done.

Incoming Drew Rosenhaus in 3 ... 2 ... 1

July 18, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Oh ... and if the eagles sign him to big money its a Shaun Alexander deja vu screen.

July 18, 2008  10:16 AM ET

They need to get him signed to a new contract, he's worth a lot to the Eagles.

Phillydave ...Yes, for how long will he do it...The Eagles would do better to spread their money around in the future for playmakers on offense.. If Westbrook goes down, they have NOTHING on offense ..NOTHING..
