Blanton pushing Eaton to bullpen?

The Phillies lost the CC Sabathia sweepstakes, but they think they found someone yesterday who can help them the way Jamie Moyer did in 2006 and Kyle Lohse did in 2007. They think righthander Joe Blanton can give them something Adam Eaton has not: innings and wins. Blanton is expected to knock Eaton from a rotation that includes Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Jamie Moyer and Kyle Kendrick, although Arbuckle said no decision on Eaton's fate has been made. But Eaton is the obvious choice to move to the bullpen. He is 1-4 with a 9.64 ERA in his last five starts, 3-8 with a 5.71 ERA this season and 13-18 with a 6.06 ERA in his Phillies career.

FMSD, what do mean now? It has not had better days in years, unless you count the addition of experience by a overvalued pitcher in Eaton.

I was hoping this move would bump Eaton off of the roster. Why would they put him in the bullpen when they already have the best one in the majors.

July 18, 2008  07:43 AM ET

Maybe Easton can take Flash Gordon's spot, eh? That 8th inning spot should fit him well next time the Braves come to town....

Because they are paying him a buttload of $$$ and feel he must stay on the team. Just chalk it as a loss and send the bum on his way. Bum.

July 18, 2008  07:52 AM ET

So Eaton gets bumped out, which is great, but then that **** Myers is coming back .. Myers is like 1-2, 3.10 ERA in the MINORS .....

Hollywood Hamels & Moyer are really our only solid starters & even Moyer's a little questionable

Umm...best bullpen in the NL there jerky. Do some research before you speak and look like a moron.

July 18, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Oh boy here we go.

July 18, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Eaton is a bum. I don't care where he goes.

Jaymand310 | 07/18/08, 08:28 AM

Agreed, if they send Myers down, why the hell didn't Eaton go down.

I was just stating that people know what they are talking about before they open their mouth.

July 18, 2008  08:30 AM ET

Dial P for psycho.

Agreed Troy Id rather have Myers in the bullpen.

July 18, 2008  08:44 AM ET

They sent Myers down because he is a headcase and needs his confidence back.

In good news, J.A. Happ struck out 12 in 7-hitless innings last night against the AAA Yankees. I don't care what you are paying Eaton, bring this guy back up!

I agree with that 100%. They should move Myers to the pen and release Eaton. Simple solution to this quandry we are in.

4192jc (Don't give up!)

I was wondering that too. His stats for past seasons are better, I think they are assuming they are praying for another turn around like they had with Lidge.
