Kerry Earnhardt to Cup Series?

Heading into 2001, Kerry Earnhardt was on the precipice of breaking into NASCAR's big leagues, having found success in a Dale Earnhardt Inc. ARCA program. Everybody knows what happened next. With [father Dale Earnhardt's death] in Daytona, everything changed around here," Kerry Earnhardt said by phone Thursday from the DEI shop. "It's just one of the things that happened to be in the works that got put to the side and never got brought back out until here recently, we started talking about doing some stuff." Does "doing some stuff" mean a long-awaited DEI Cup ride for the 38-year-old, who has had journeyman experience in NASCAR's top three series? Earnhardt wouldn't turn down a stroke of good luck. "If the opportunity arises, I would definitely take advantage of it," said Earnhardt, a team liaison for DEI. "And I would love to have that opportunity." The ways the stars are aligning, it isn't out of the question.

YES!!!! Give me an HONEST Earnhardt to root for. Not some double-dealin, flim-flammin scallywag!! It would be sweet to see Kerry get a LEGITIMATE win before Blonde Ambition does.

You do realize that there is some type of racing going on in the rear of the pack. The only time this Earnthardt will tangle with a superior driver is when he is about to get lapped by Kyle for the SECOND time.

Holy Craap!, Meathead, have you been giving the Busch a little "action", shaving a little on the side?,
Bring it on!!!!!! Keep talking, maybe you'll say something intelligent before the day is done,,,,,,I doubt it!

I know for a fact that Jr did not approve this
story,Kerry was real good in Nascar's go cart
series.He's a turn coat anyway,,,

Good Morning my fellow Ball busters

Meathead, are you shifting again today?

July 18, 2008  09:19 AM ET

As Tony Stewart would say Here kitty kitty

July 18, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Got to believe this will get real interesting -- do you think he can find backing to buy TEI???

July 18, 2008  09:33 AM ET

EarnTaz88 sure,,, he's going to ask his brother for s check

July 18, 2008  09:35 AM ET

Sure - he can easily fill Martin's fire proof shoes - not! I wish him luck though, as Meathead said (in his odd hillbilly way), would be nice to see another Earnhardt. His son is supposed to be up and coming right?

EarnTaz88 | 07/18/08, 09:26 AM

NO, but Teresa might give him some (???), just to piss JR off?

July 18, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Considering that Kerry is a test driver for DEI, this move makes some sense. Maybe he's the only child that Teresa can get along with (& that's not a knock on Jr. or Kelley).

I think his son jason?, is racing the Arca, and doing some testing for TEI.
I'd like to see another Earnhart do well, but Kerry has been in and out over the years, and has most of the time ended up wrecking or not having any consistency.

I think you got that right. I just don't feel like he has the talent.

Shifting??? I am a fan of Kerry because I don't think he got a fair shake. There are definitely worse drivers in a decent car. When it comes to talent, he and Jr. are about even....the only difference is NASCAR doesn't bend or blatantly molest the rules to get him a win.

He got Many fair chances, he never had any consistency or drive as a driver.

July 18, 2008  10:00 AM ET

Not shifting...I get a weekend this week. As for the Fair Shakes, I don't think the 96 car is worth a crap. Him driving for TEI was a good shot and if they actually kept him in the car consistantly I am sure he would get better.

OH, Meathead please, how can you even compare the two? seriously!
