Tennessee football signee Casey Kelly signed with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday and won't be joining the Vols. Kelly was a highly recruited quarterback prospect out of Sarasota (Fla.) High School but was also one of the nation's top prep baseball players. Boston took the shortstop/pitcher with the No. 30 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft in June. Kelly was the only quarterback to sign with UT in the 2008 class. The Vols have three quarterbacks on the roster, including junior starter Jonathan Crompton, sophomore Nick Stephens and redshirt freshman B.J. Coleman.

Oh cry a tear for the college, oh cry a tear oh my.

Come on, a chance to play for the reigning champs and continue that career or get the @#$% beat out of you in the SEC. Its a no brainer.

I think we all saw this coming. I am less disappointed in losing him as a QB as I am losing him as a star baseball player for the Vols. Oh well, time to smoke bomb work and skip out to the bar to drink beers and then see The Dark Knight.

Makes sense to go to the Sox.

It is sad, since they are leaving a manly sport to go to a sport that 98% of all minor leagurs make the team in their life.

not much for me. Crompton still is the option.

usually when these kids sign, the Pro team that signs them will put funds for college into to the deal, especially a 1st rd player

Wouldn's he make more money playing for the Vols than the Sox?
