Lightning hopes to reverse curse

The Lightning believes a 47-foot tall ad space on the side of the St. Pete Times Forum is cursed. Well, not really. Then again... Mark Gullett, senior director of marketing, said never again will a player be pictured in the space at the corner of Morgan Street and Channelside Drive. Think about it. In 2006-07, the Lightning displayed goaltender Marc Denis, who was so bad, he was recently bought out of his contract. A recent Photoshopped picture of Steve Stamkos had to be replaced because the No. 1 draft pick was incorrectly portrayed as a left-handed shot. The adjusted picture included defenseman Dan Boyle, who, oops, almost immediately was traded to the Sharks. "That sign on the wall has been such a curse, we decided to have some fun with it," Gullett said. So the current billboard features the Tampa skyline and has design elements specifically added, Gullett said, to "reverse the curse.

It's less a curse than a reflection of stupidity and bad judgement. I mean Marc Denis? What were they thinking? Hey they looked up Vinnie L. for 70 years, use him as the face of the franchise.

Yeah, it's true! They also sacrificed a chicken and buried it under the logo on center ice! And the new owners mistresses were seen riding eco friendly brooms at the corner of Morgan Street and Channelside Drive and they also drew a pentagram on the floor of the dressing room!

Quick! Somebody bring in the Exorcist!

If you can't beat the curse with all the signings and Stamkos, you should hand the key to the locker room to Buttman so he can move the team to New Mexico.

Put a picture of Gary Roberts on there, it will seek out the curse and beat it to submission.

Durk....you said it.

OK....anyone else notice how the article stated that Dan Boyle was traded yet who do they have a picture of with this article?!!!! Does that mean he is now going to be traded back?

July 18, 2008  12:42 PM ET

He's right, it is dan Boyle. Maybe this article and forum are cursed!

July 18, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Yeah, from that picture it looks like Dan Boyle is seeing the devil himself. Quick! Put that Gary Roberts poster up! That alone will scare the snot out of satan!

Anybody find it rare for this to happen to teh lightning? Just start looking back at all the Florida teams and what happens to them 2 seasons after they win a championship miami heat playoffs then worst team in the league, Marlins playoffs (if im not mistaken) then worst team in the league (Buccaners) playoffs then terrible the second season. Dolphins enough said.

The Lightining crack me up. They signed Olaf Kolzig, Adam Hall, and Gary Roberts and got a new coach who hasn't coached in the NHL since I believe '95, but their owner guranteed a division championship already. None of these guys are that great. In fact, their roster last year was just as good if not better--if you can't win with St. Louis and Lecalvier you've got problems. It was smart to get rid of Tortorella, but Melrose I'm not sure was the right choice.

htownhockey#1....they alway signed Malone. And Recchi.
