Teams show interest in Roberts

The Orioles' two-week downturn heading into the All-Star break has given club president Andy MacPhail new license to steer the team in the direction he originally intended. There are believed to be several teams interested in second baseman Brian Roberts, but the possibility of replicating the returns of trades involving Erik Bedard and Miguel Tejada is more likely to come down to competitive bidding between two division rivals or some contender's urgent need that has yet to become apparent. The same goes for anyone else MacPhail wants to unload.

Oh great, here we go again. Brian Roberts in syndacation.

July 18, 2008  01:58 PM ET

Tomorrow there will be a new thread about how the Cubs and Orioles are talking about Roberts again

July 18, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Exactly....

July 18, 2008  02:44 PM ET

YAWN,,.......JUST TRADE HIM ALREADY

July 18, 2008  03:02 PM ET

How many teams have a need and a lineup opening for Brian Roberts, and would be willing to pony up the prospects?

Cubs. Cardinals (maybe). Rockies??? Dodgers? (fire Kent). Twins.

The Cubs and maybe the Twins seem to be the most logical destinations to me.

July 18, 2008  03:39 PM ET

I agree....Cubs, Twins and Cards have the biggest needs, but will the Cubs trade any more young players now that they have traded for Blanton?

July 18, 2008  03:53 PM ET

The Cubs will no longer be willing to give up much of anything for him anymore. They are simply playing too well without him as it is, and so is Mark Derosa. Pass!!

July 18, 2008  04:20 PM ET

Hey Tenrings, The Cubs have never traded for Blanton. That was the Phillies your thinking of.

July 18, 2008  04:25 PM ET

I meant to say Harden.....my bad.

July 18, 2008  04:50 PM ET

We have a need; but, it's not enough of a need to allow Baltimore to fleece us the way they fleeced Seatle.

July 18, 2008  05:20 PM ET

They also fleeced Seattle.

July 18, 2008  06:46 PM ET

Can he play Shortstop? If so, he's more than welcome to come hit leadoff for the Cardinals.

July 18, 2008  07:52 PM ET

The Brewers can use him and send Weeks packing. They need the help for a good lead off man. Weeks is not cutting it.

If Baltimore was silly enough to take Weeks for Roberts, then the Brewers offense could be set. Imagine Roberts getting on base in front of Braun, Fielder, Hart and Hardy.

July 19, 2008  01:21 AM ET

Wow, that's almost a scary thought if the Brew Crew landed him.....

Just like with Sherrill, unless some team offers them a deal thats too good to be true, I hope the O's hang on to him.
