Count wide receiver Jerry Porter out of Jaguars training camp and the entire preseason. The team's highest-profile free-agent acquisition, Porter is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a hamstring tendon that has been slow to heal, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Friday. The Jaguars are hopeful that Porter will be ready for the Sept. 7 season opener at Tennessee.

No point to playing him too soon. They won a lot of games without him last year. Not sure people realize how good this team could be. He could be the missing piece... Ask the Chargers, the Jags beat them in week eleven last year.

if this is the "highest-profile free-agent acquisition" move the jags are going make, its going to be a long season for jags fans. a wr that has yet to break 1000 yard season, have more than 4000 yards for a 8 year career, and never broken double figures in scoring, won't be much of a game changer.

The Jags are still a team that depends on running the ball effectively before opening things up. The timing needed between a QB & WR will be missing as Garrard & Porter won't get the chance to develop that chemistry. However, the team will improve drastically when a 100% healthy Porter joins the WR corps.

The Jags could be dangerous this year. In fact, I'd pick them to beat Indy and Tennessee in the AFC South division. Strong D, good running game...

Raiders fan know too well about Jerry Porter. He's never been the #1 receiver and clashes with the coaching staff. Too bad, great wasted talent.

That was very bad news for me and most NFL fans. I hope his recovery is swift.

Jerry Porter has great potential to lift this NFL hopes to even higher heights than yesteryear....

Everyone will be able to stack the box on Freddy and MJD, I look for a step back. I see the Texans as moving up over both Tennesee and Jacksonville.
