Sabres change ways with Miller
The pieces are starting to come together, little by little, with every day the Buffalo Sabres are removed from the horror of last summer. There was a renewed sense of enthusiasm Friday in HSBC Arena after they signed Ryan Miller, a move that made their future seem brighter and their intentions more genuine. Now, the Sabres are back in the game. The contract extension was critical on many fronts. For once, it didn't take the Sabres an hour to make minute rice. The deal was done 18 days after they were eligible to begin negotiations. There were no lowball offers, no botching of tentative agreements, no animosity, no jerking around a star player, no distractions. It was a grand departure from business practices that led to Chris Drury and Daniel Briere bolting, Brian Campbell getting traded and the franchise landing on its ear. By golly, maybe they?'ve finally learned their lesson. Miller wanted to remain here. The Sabres showed they were committed to keeping him. Everybody's satisfied.

I wonder when he'll ask for a trade to Detroit?

What choice do they have? It's not like they're Detroit or the Rangers with unlimited resources. They're considered a small market team but, they have to pay the pipper if they want to remain competitive. They have to pick their spots, though. A fine balancing act of who to keep and who to let go. Ryan Miller is a must have!

Maybe next they can try and keep people from leaving the horrible city of Buffalo.

They still have Vanek at 7 mil courtesy of Kevin Lowe. A little too expensive for Buffalo. They might have no choice but to trade him.

Horrible city??? You ever lived there? Buffalo is a great beautful city, low crime rate, excellent summers, low commute times to get to work, and tons of things to do. Look at buffalo.com and see all the wonderful things going on before you go making harsh statements like that. By the way, what glamorus city do you live in? I bet I could come up with a negative comments about where you live. Back to hockey, Miller is one of the best goaltenders in the game. Losing him would've been difficult to replace. I think they got it right this time. Season ticket sales are off the charts. We expect great things next season from this club.

trade to Detroit?....r u insane. just because the man is from a certain state doesn't mean he wants to play for that particular state's team. don't believe everything u read, ****. and horrible city, dallarda1976? ur from new jersey. the COUNTRY'S dumping ground. please, bring ur city and states' standards up to par w/ the rest of the country b4 u start talking about other city's well being. the sabres will win the cup this year. GUARANTEED. 2 recent trips to the eastern conference finals isn't exactly a drop in the bucket. everyone bow and watch how hockey is supposed to be played.

We do, it just happens when we watch the Red Wings. Speaking of Detroit, that is the country's dumping ground, not New Jersey. The landscape of Detroit is in shambles, and no other city has been affected more by the state of the economy. That's what happens when a city relies on the automobile industry for all of its income. It's sad, really.

And by the way, come talk to us about people not leaving Buffalo when your beloved Bills move north to Toronto.

I watch Miller play his Junior A hockey here in the Soo, and the Sabres were smart to hang on to him. He's a good goalie and a good guy.

Wow. Good for Buffalo. I guess Miller felt that Buffalo was a little less dumpy than Detroit, and I am sure that Buffalo realized that if they didn't sign Miller than they may have had to make a phone call to Emery. Imagina that, Emery in Buffalo! The cops would have a field day and T.G.I Friay's would never be the same again!

He rock, This just in.....Toronto Maple Leafs???? come on dude!!! Now that's laughable, the Leafs will be celler dwellers for years to come wake up! The Sabres own the Leafs. The Leafs SUCK!! get your head out and stop worry about other teams that consistantly kick your team butt night in and night out. Now matter where the Sabres finish, they will be looking down on the Leafs. COUNT ON IT!

Louis M:
You are right about the short commuter times. The 50 people who actually have jobs in Buffalo say the highways are always accident-free due to low volume. I guess Buffalo and Detroit do have something in common.
