Lidge's All-Star work irks Phillies

The Phillies weren't happy Brad Lidge (20-for-20 in save situations in the first half) was up and down multiple times before getting into the All-Star Game in the 15th inning. Clint Hurdle had hoped to bring him in with a lead, but the AL kept escaping ugly messes.

Maybe it's time to get back to considering the All-star game an exhibition game.

Maybe Griffy and Ivan Rodriguez should have been there this year.

Let total inter-league play or play against common opponents decide home field. Get back to putting on a show for the fans instead of all this false high drama.

Yep, making winning the All Star game important can ruin more than a few teams chances if their players are hurt. I like the idea from CardFan2 - make the winner of inter-league play the deciding factor. Wonder how ol Bud would feel if one of the Brewers was injured in the All Star game?

Please, let's change the All-Star game to the end of the season. Keep the homerun derby if people want, and maybe add a few other specialty exhibitions, but put the All-Star game between the end of the regular season and the first playoff game. The teams in the playoffs couldn't participate, but America sees those players on TV in the playoffs anyway. That would work better than what we got now.

And as for homefield advantage, here's a thought. Why not just give it to the team with the best record?

My favorite part of this All-Star game?

That lollypop pitch Zambrano threw at Manny. Carlos still knows the game should be about fun. Good on him.

My least favorite part of the game?

Seeing Uggla with that deer in the headlights look on his face. That was painful. I wish he'd been having some fun instead.

Seriously, are pitchers that delicate these days?

The Playoff team that finishes with the best regular season record should claim World Series home field advantage. What is so terribly complicated about that?

July 19, 2008  01:50 PM ET

YOU HAVE TO BE S H I T T N' ME!!! "I'm a pitcher and my v a g i na hurts if i warm up too long!

July 19, 2008  04:57 PM ET

Geez, Tell It Like it Is......ya think that is a good idea? How novel, the team with the best record getting homefield......what a concept. Seriously, thanks for pointing out the clear and obvious solution that never seems to get talked about by MLB

I have wondered for years why homefield didn't go to the team with the best record......it makes no sense to have an exhibition game decide it. Almost as dumb was alternating year year.......how much sense did that make?

July 19, 2008  05:41 PM ET

I always wondered why they alternated homefield advantage. Stupid, huh? I could never understand why a team that won 10 games more than its opponent would have to travel first.

Bud Selig, please take notes.

I'm sorry, Bud isn't taking any calls from fans although he does appreciate your concern If you are looking for a good used car, please leave your contact info and Bud will get back to you!

Good one.

July 19, 2008  07:30 PM ET

Who cares!!! Pitchers are so girly these days. They need 5 days off between starts and can only pitch 68 pitches by the 6th inning if they go past that they risk getting a blister or blowing out their shoulders? Its all crap....Pitchers need to grow a pair of balls and start pitching like they did in the old days. 9 inning complete games, win or lose. Then they pitched another 9 innings 3 days later. Pitchers are the most overpaid sports figures for what they do. Give me the job where I have to work once a week, maybe twice and get paid millions of dollars. GIVE ME A BREAK YOU BUNCH OF CHINA DOLLS!!!

Grow up you immature child !!! I'm stating a fact about being an All Star - if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen so I guess I'm "telling it like it is " ??/

July 20, 2008  09:01 PM ET

You say, and I quote, "**** you - **** him - **** his team ENOUGH SAID ???" and then call someone an immature child? And that is stating a fact? How is that a fact? What exactly is factual about that? And what exactly is the "heat" that you're bringing? Are you in heat? It sounds that way. Get a $5 bill, go down to the corner, give someone that Lincoln, and maybe they'll rectify your heated condition.
