Despite his bosses' support for him in the scout skimming investigation, there's increasing buzz that Nationals GM Jim Bowden will be replaced before next year.

He's doing a fantastic job.

Wanted Man, I hope you're being sarcastic.

Pick your favorite team, anyone. Then, match your team up position-by-position against the Nationals. Most likely, there are very few players in Washington that any other team would want, even pitchers. With the exceptions of Ryan Zimmerman (DL), Chad Cordero (DL), and Jon Rauch, they seem to have a AAA roster.

July 20, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Yes, sarcasm. Really, what is this franchise's problem? They're not some second year expansion team stuck in Podunk, ND. They have the money, they have the swanky new stadium, they have the media market. Apparently, all they need is a few baseball people with a clue. I mean, come on, 37 wins?

think bowden lost the ability or confidence of most GM to trade with him after the Reds trade fiasco

July 20, 2008  12:20 PM ET

This should have happened about the same time as the Seattle executions.

July 20, 2008  12:24 PM ET

Bowden is a terrible GM and should be fired. As long as he is the GM of the Nationals, they will be one of the worst teams in baseball. I am a Reds fan and I think that in the end the Reds will have gotten the better of the that trade. It just took 3 years for it to come to light, but be that as it may, is doesn't excuse the fact that he hid the injury to Majewski from the them. It shows what kind of person he is, classless.

July 20, 2008  01:27 PM ET

The built a team, and then they go injured. Take out any teams star player, entire starting outfield and their closer and see how they do. The starting pitching had been excellent but they have not had the run support to back it up because they have had to field AAA players in the starting lineup. Kory Casto and Bernadina have been key role players but they don't fit as major league starters.

July 20, 2008  01:52 PM ET

Every team has to deal with wide spread injuries. That's why a real MLB team must have depth at every position. There's no excuse for the horrible job being done in Washington.

July 20, 2008  06:09 PM ET

team is not that bad. a good outfielder and a first baseman that stays healthy and they are good as most NL teams

July 20, 2008  06:11 PM ET

what was the reds fiasco... ?

July 20, 2008  06:22 PM ET

Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez were traded for a couple of relief pitchers, Bill Bray and Majewski.

July 20, 2008  06:42 PM ET

I am soo upset about this "rumor" !!! Bowden is an impeccable GM - one of the best. Wait a minute - wasn't he a previous GM of the Reds - never mind !!!

July 20, 2008  08:53 PM ET

Please, Washington, I will take the job when you fire Bowden. I don't know what you're paying him, but I'll sign a one-year contract for 40 percent of what he's making. What have you got to lose? You're currently the saddest franchise in MLB.

July 21, 2008  02:14 AM ET

Can't imagine why he'd get fired... I mean, the guy signed Odalis Perez to be his opening day starter.....what more could you ask?

July 21, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Critics of the Nationals need to do their homework. Major League baseball absolutely plundered the Expos farm system/team when they owned the team before they finally allowed them to move to Washington. The last year Omar Minaya was GM, MLB wouldn't even give the Expos the money to pay for September call ups, and only allowed them to relocate after they picked them completely clean of young talent. The new owners have only had the team for a couple of years. They're building the farm system, and will expand payroll in the future. And they have gotten a ton of injuries which they could not afford. I DON'T have great faith in Bowden, but I have enormous faith in Stan Kasten. He's doing it the right way. As a fan, I'm willing to show some patience.

NatFan, that may be true. But I can't name any of the Nats top prospects right now. Can you? Sorry, but they suck.
