Magic deal Dooling to Nets

Any program from a Nets' game this past season already is horribly dated. And it's going to get worse within a few days when Keyon Dooling is added after a sign-and-trade deal with Orlando is finalized. Dooling, 28, a 6-foot-3 combo guard, will fill the Nets' most conspicuous need as a backup at both guard positions. The Nets and Magic have worked out the trade that still needs league approval.

The nets have had a bizzare off-season....

they've picked up like 40 draft picks, 35 youngsters, and like 2 dozen veteran forwards.....

Very strange-
It's kinda like they are just looking for a player or 2 to step up that they might be able to use as a building block.

Does ANYONE see a direction ?
(other than waiting for a shot at Lebron)

I see no diffrence here other than Orlando hoping some one pans out. guess out of that many picks you hope a few stick and can play. guess their direction is playing the law of averages.

The Nets have too many backup PG's, Frank collecting them like Gruden collects QB's........

Dooling is a scrub.

I agree jbg the nets are filled with fowards & 2 many backups the nets are going 2 have a miserable season.

Dooling is a decent player, never a #2, #3, or even #4 option though...

Classic journeyman that no one knows (or cares) if he ever played in a playoff game...

July 20, 2008  02:58 PM ET

he did last year...

July 20, 2008  03:17 PM ET

why did the nets take him, did this really happen.

July 20, 2008  04:05 PM ET

nets r not trying to fill roster spots and just play...they don't want to win. just be there

I don't think they are bringing him in as a PG, more of a combo/SG. The Magic got a good deal, considering Dooling was acctually a free agent. Now that their only PG other than Nelson is Arroyo, and he is a UFA, they need to trade for Javaris Crittenton/Kyle Lowry. Possibly him and Greg Buckner for Brian Cook, Keith Bogans, and JJ Redick.

Also, I see the Nets going in the direction of this.....

1. Either adding depth to make sure they have players after they make a blockbuster trade for a star.

2. Just waiting for LeBron, and these two years they will just be at the bottom of the standings as always.

3. Trade Carter for Wally Szczerbiak and have all the players compete for a spot on the roster.

He is a decent player, not an important one tho...

As a nets fan, this off season proves they are going for lebron, I think they are going to package a josh boone, marcus williams and a trenton hassel + kvh contract for a superstar like Shawn Marion

Go Magic1

I would like to see the Nets trade for Marion and lay out the welcome mat for Lebron.
