NFL considers moving draft
Two months ago at the NFL's spring meeting in Atlanta, commissioner Roger Goodell indicated that the draft could be hitting the road from year to year, instead of being held annually in New York. He also acknowledged that Los Angeles was a possibility as a host. Yet while Goodell said such changes could go into effect for 2009, the league has since decided to keep the draft in New York for at least one more year. The draft will also remain a Saturday-Sunday affair for 2009, contrary to speculation that it could potentially start on a Friday night.

wouldn't you want the draft at least in a city where you have a team? give it to the runner up for superbowl bids as a consulation prize.

BOOOOO!...Is tradition such a bad thing? I suppose the Heisman Trophy travels next, I mean the Down Town Athletic Club has had it too long. Award that at a different site every year...
Give me a break...Look Commish, the league is two years away from a work stoppage, teams are up for sale, some owners are looking to put the screws to the cities and fans that supported them forever over luxury box suites and stadium deals..TV rights are about to go to pay companies that exclude millions of viewers...Steroids are going to get you yet..Every week players are charged with serious crimes.. Get busy..

I just get this image if Goodell with his hands over his ears saying " I can't hear you the league is wonderful "

I'm tired of the NFL's sucking up to LA. Hell, Los Angeles is a two-time NFL loser. And still, the NFL keeps schmoozing and blowing in its ear.
Screw LA.
Tell it like it is

I'd move it out of NYC just to get away from those low-brow, low-IQ idiots in oversized Jets jerseys they always show on draft day falling over themselves to get on ESPN for .5 seconds.

Yes, send it to Philly where the fans are polite and respectful. You know, the "City of Brotherly Love"!

i think it would be good for the draft to move around, i think they should play the pro bowl in different places, I do however agree that it should be somewhere there is an NFL TEAM.. not in LA, where they have NO TEAM. if they wanted to so it in CA. why not SAN FRAN, or OAKLAND.. being in some of the $$$ to other cities, like the NHL, or MLB do.

the draft could be held in Las Vegas or Atlantic City instead.. wait that might send the wrong signal about who spends the most money on the NFL.

What's the point? Do that many fans attend to make it an economic windfall for a city? I don't understand the logic.

These "staged" events outside of the season are worthless....Sorry to be so negative but if you spend your time watching these you might try finding other interests. I am a fan of the game, I don't care so much to see (Any college superstar) and his family sweating it out at the NY AC, his moms living room watching the draft etc......none of that is sport/competition. It is just more reality TV c_rap. The more time we spend devoted to our HD TVs the more the networks and leagues are required to serve us up "something" no matter how bad. I would gladly take a day on the water windsurfing rather than spend 2 minutes watching the draft. That sort of news is garnered from the web in 5 minutes the day after. What, do the GMs and Coaches consult us for our advice? This sort of entertainment has the same appeal as "Deal or No-Deal"; maybe we can get that Mandel guy to host the next one.....sorry for the rant

I'm with you. I'm more interested in that they get the thing done so I can see what teams did what synoptically than sit there pick by pick. It's a waste of time and, except for say the top ten picks, boring as hell.

GWW,
Somehow ESPN and media paint it up like it exciting!? Maybe for .00002% of the population! boring as hell only begins to describe it, and changing the location will not help. East Coast Kieth had it right, it is only interesting to the fools parading around trying to get on TV, my favorite is when the same clown is on his cell, talking to other mensa members if they can see him or not--that's entertainment

@Roger
I think having it travel from city to city is a good idea, But keep it on Saturday so that team can have their local draft day event which are good family events. Friday nights would be a little less friendly.

Moving the draft from city to city is an unnecessary gimmick. The NFL Draft is already hugely popular. IF they decide to move it around, then they should follow the NHL model and hold it in cities where there's a franchise.
