Simply calling Tim Tebow the best quarterback in college football apparently isn't enough. Gators coach Urban Meyer told a Miami audience that Tebow ''is the greatest player of our era.''

LMAO: TIM TEBLOW SUCKS! HES ONE DEMENSIONAL. i woudl take vince young over teblow any day. last thing i remember seeing from UF superman of a qb was him picking grass from his helmet...

July 20, 2008  10:46 AM ET

He's a very good QB, but he's also a system QB. Time will tell if Meyer's statements are correct, but I would think that they are a bit premature.

Meyer is a good PR person b/c what is really constituted by "our era"?

July 20, 2008  10:55 AM ET

LOL!
Funniest stuff I heard in a long time

July 20, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Exaggerate much Urban?

July 20, 2008  11:05 AM ET

i wonder if florida has a big enough helmet to fit tebow's swelling head

July 20, 2008  11:10 AM ET

Has Meyer forgotten about guys from this era like Reggie Bush and Vince Young? Tebow is obviously a great college player - but not on the level of those two. And I'm sure I'm forgetting about 10 other guys from the SEC better than Tebow.

July 20, 2008  12:02 PM ET

Hey, the kids only a sophomore, has a national title and a Heisman. Hes still got a year or two to show that Urban is dead on. Or a year or two to show how stupid of a statement that was. And last thing i remember Buckeye, he accounted for as many touchdowns as your entire squad in the 07 championship...as a backup.

July 20, 2008  12:03 PM ET

He should have said he has the potential to be the greatest. If he somehow wins another Heisman trophy of BCS Chmapionship, he should be in the discussion.

July 20, 2008  12:13 PM ET

Tebow is a very good QB and a very good match for the Chicago Bears who should trade whatever they need to trade to be able to get this guy. He's like a smarter, more mentally talented and physically gifted Bobby Douglas. He would solve their QB problems for a decade.

July 20, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Great player but a product of Urban's system. On the college level he's great but he'll be average at best in the NFL.

July 20, 2008  12:15 PM ET

Ok,let's not get carried away he Mr. Meyer, let's let him play out the next two seasons and wwait to see if he becomes one of the best.Yes a Heisman and a Championship look good, but this kid has played 2 freakin' years. You're getting a little ahead of yourself.

July 20, 2008  12:18 PM ET

PS I mean, when it comes time for the draft. I fully expect that he will declare eligibility after this year.

Disagree. In fact, this guy reminds me a good bit of a more physical John Elway. And he's not afraid to run into the line.

His c.v. is already extremely impressive and another Heisman - which he won't get anyway - is irrelevant. I can't think of a better college QB out there. (Nope, not Daniels.)

July 20, 2008  12:29 PM ET

And he's not afraid to run into the line.

George W. Watson | 07/20/08, 12:20 PM

That's part of his problem, he thinks he can simply run over anyone who gets in his way. A lot of the time, he can. But it only takes one good shot. He needs to be more cautious or he'll wind up getting hurt. And if Tebow gets hurt, well, there goes Florida's offense. He's the one piece they can't afford to lose. Urban needs to be his Coach and not his cheerleader.

July 20, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Guys guys... here's a few things.

First off- Ohio State Fans... SHUT UP. Your team is a bunch of choke artists. No room to talk. Go beat a team better than anyone in the big ten and THEN we'll allow you to listen in on our discussions.

Second- Tebow does have those one or two years. Personally, I think he's staying all 4 and will end up with a national title as a starter and one more heisman.

Thirdly- though he does like to run into the line, Florida now has 5 legitimate runningbacks (including emmanuel moody who transferred) and that takes the pressure and predictability of Tebow's running right out of the equation. He's a very efficient and solid passer, which is only going to show again this year and his running will be more effective as it was his freshman year now that they have backs.

I predict his passing numbers to improve, his rushing numbers to go down obviously and his TDs won't be as high as last year... but his season is going to be very good.

Yeah, but the guy is built to last and he seems to like the contact, as if he were a running back. As a coach, you have to worry about the legs and maybe things would be different for him (like they became for Daunte and Donovan) in the NFL, but he seems to be holding up pretty good.

July 20, 2008  01:03 PM ET

George W. Watson, I agree that he is built like...I don't know...a freakin' tank? OK, his strength and physical stature are very impressive. As are his skills. I'm not trying to knock him at all. I just think he should chill, just a little bit, with the "take on the world" mentality. As you stated, he'll have more tools to work with on offense this season, and for his sake I hope he utilizes them. Calling him the greatest of this era is ridiculous at this point, but, I agree that he is very talented.

July 20, 2008  01:07 PM ET

It's hard to say if he is the greatest of our era... .but he very well might be. As a sophomore, he blew it out of the water.... just a kid.... so he's just getting started. And he did it all with an extremely young team.
Opponents only had to think of two things: Tebow run, Tebow pass, and Harvin. And they still had a heck of hard time stopping those baby Gators with that weak Gator defense to boot.
Tebow has an amazing touch on the ball.
With what he has already done as a Freshmen and Sophomore, it is looking quite promising.
