Drew Weatherford will not have much margin for error at FSU. Bobby Bowden said Christian Ponder and D'Vontrey Richardson ``closed the gap with Drew. They will either make Drew an outstanding quarterback, or one will get his job. [Offensive coordinator] Jimbo Fisher really likes Ponder.''

"Weatherford will not have much margin for error" as well he should not have margin for error.

This is good. The time for "learning curves" needs to be over. Competition among great atletes is what helped bring FSU to the top of the college football world in the 90's. Enough of the conservative BS on offense, time to bring back our "fastbreak" offense and shed this mediocrity that we've been mired in for 7 long years. Time to start takin' names again... Damn, I love Seminoles Football.

GO NOLES!!!

Like we couldn't have figure that out. I'm just more interested to see who dies on the sideline first.....Bowden or Paterno. Both are just sticking around to see who ends up with the final "Most wins as a college football coach" title. It would be hilarious if they both drop dead on the sidelines tied! With Bowden up by one game, who knows how long uncle Joe will stick around. Not that I'm starting a betting line in Vegas.......lol.

Hey DEVO, what the Over/6 feet Under on that bet!

Sounds like some good material for "Weekend at Bernies 3", 4 or whatever heck # they're on. Walter Mathau as Paterno?

The Racehorse offense, as Bobby called it.

July 20, 2008  08:01 PM ET

Drew Weatherford is still in school?

July 20, 2008  08:05 PM ET

Yes, unfortunately

July 20, 2008  11:48 PM ET

Give em a break; he had lyme disease

July 21, 2008  04:44 AM ET

No, that was Wyatt Sexton who had lyme disease, i wish Weatherford would catch it though. Are they going to redshirt E.J. Manuel because he clearly will be the best of the bunch!

July 21, 2008  04:52 AM ET

Christian Ponder will shine

July 21, 2008  05:15 AM ET

Manuel will red shirt I think

July 21, 2008  08:05 AM ET

I'm just happy that he's going to give somebody else a chance at QB. Drew has had all the chances he deserves......I can't wait for football season to start. GO NOLES!! :-)

July 21, 2008  09:39 AM ET

The curse of Chris Rix continues.......i have a question for noles fans.....how long does last year's suspension last this year.....is it 2 or 3 games? If it is only 2 games than it won't be a big deal, but if it is 3, than they're in trouble against Wake Forest at home

July 21, 2008  11:07 AM ET

If they don't redshirt Manuel then they need to give him plenty of snaps this year. Weatherford should have never got the starting job...ever! It frustrates me when a talent like Xavier Lee just rides the pine. He was never given a full chance at FSU. Yeah, he made plenty of mistakes, but I believe Drew did as well. Lee at least brought the big play ability that Weatherford really lacked i.e. arm and legs. FSU has too much talent to be a 7-6 team and it all comes down to the QB position.

Coach Bowden isn't stupid. He wants to win every game, so he plays those who he feels give FSU the best chance to win. Those who know FSU football, know that the X-Man DID get his chance(s) to be the starting QB. The reason he never held onto the position is because he didn't know the playbook, plain and simple. Improvising is great when a play breaks down, but improvising because you don't understand the play you're SUPPOSED to run is not great. He is a gifted athlete who should have been willing to change positions.

BTW, the suspensions are for the first 3 games of the '08 season, so the Wake Forest game may be tough, we'll see.

give manuel a shot, bobby. fsu wont be in the national title hunt this year, start a young guy

I'm surprised Booby even knew his name. He is bordering on senility.

If he forgets his name, all he has to do is look around at the stadium. It says "Bobby Bowden Field" in nice large letters. You think anyone will ever name anything after Urban? Perhaps a bathroom stall at the Purple Porpoise in Gainesville?

eyesWIDEopen...I KNOW FSU football and not once did I say Bobby Bowden was stupid. You don't honestly think he 100% made the QB decision do you? If you do then you don't know FSU football. BB is the a legend, but as the years go by, he becomes more of an icon for FSU. He still makes decisions, but not as many as when his teams were finishing in the top 5. Also...Weatherford was given a way longer leash than Lee had and that can't be denied. Maybe he should have changed positions, but not when he would have been a RS Senior ( makes no sense). Weatherford and Lee both struggled to win games...So why not let the better player play? Lee had the potential to be great and all Weatherford had was a chance to be a solid college QB. Just a solid QB will not win a National title unless you have a great RB. Over these last 4-5 years...they have been getting 5 star recruits at both positions, so maybe it is was the Coaching!!!

Mickey Andrews is great and hopefully Fisher pans out. Go Noles
