Favre-Vikings deal could be win-win

If Brett Favre wants to play for the Vikings, which he seems to want to do, and if the Vikings want Favre, which they seem to, there would seem to be a deal to be made, with the NFL steering it behind the scenes. A deal for the future hall of fame quarterback could be good business for the league. Getting Favre, even though he turns 39 in October, immediately would make the Vikings' chances of getting to the Super Bowl at least as good as any NFL team's. Favre obviously knows that because he would get to play with running back Adrian Peterson and wide receiver Bernard Berrian, and have Jared Allen chasing opposing quarterbacks. The Vikings haven't refuted Green Bay's charges of tampering with Favre. The tampering issue, which is difficult to prove, would go away if the Vikings and Packers could make a deal.

"ike I figured the NFL is "STAGING" a seson no diffrent then the WWE!!!! This is outright disgusting by the NFL to put Favre on another team to increase business!!!!!! and they called this the greatest league???????????

Please, Green Bay, send Favre to KC or Miami or Baltimore. Just to end the speculation about him.

NFL = Win
Minn = Win
GB = two horrible losses two Minn

So who do the Vikings trade to Green Bay? What constitutes "fair value" in return for a Pro-Bowl, 1st ballot HOF QB who's expected to lead the Vikings to the Lombardi trophy? Any of the star players that are expected to be Favre's teammates ? The draft picks the Vikings no longer have after the Jared Allen trade with the Chiefs?? The Vikings fans all dream about what they'll get and what it means to their team. What the Packers get (what they'll DEMAND in return) keeps getting overlooked.

So which frontline player WOULD the Vikings give up? Which frontline player does the St. Paul Pioneer Press THINK they should be willing to give up??
No one, apparently. Oh, I forgot! The Packers aren't going to trade Favre, they're just going to release him and let him go to the Vikings and get nothing in return. Sorry, my bad!!

Everyone complains that they're tired of the Brett Favre melodrama. I'm really tired of the Vikings ongoing "wet dream". Fishwrap!!

I will never happen

July 20, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Even though Green Bay fans won't admit this, but they aren't likely to win a superbowl with a first year QB. It just doesn't happen. The games are simply too big. Besides the Giants, Vikings, Cowboys and Saints are all very motivated teams. So if Green Bay would get a first round pick it might work out good for them.

The Vikings might be a team who would give them that first round pick and maybe a second round pick because they are in the same division. You would have to think the Vikings would really have to pay to get Farve.

On the surface this might seem like a bad thing for Green Bay but your getting a big asset for a QB who you consider to be a backup at best to Aaron Rodgers who has never played a full NFL game. A first and a second for a guy who will play one more year in a new system would be a steal. Not to mention in the long run this hurts the Vikings.

Green Bay fans don't actually think they are going to win the superbowl this year do they?

ENOUGH OF THE FAVRE STORIES ALREADY.I THINK BRETT FAVRE SHOULD BE LABELED AS SELFISH,HE SHOULD LET THE GREEN BAY START THE DELAYED REBUILDING AROUND THE NEW Q B FOR BETTER FUTURE.IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM AND ONLY HIM HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE TEAM.HAD THIS BEEN T.O EVERYBODY WOULD SAYING HOW SELFISH HE WAS

July 20, 2008  11:48 AM ET

IF the Packers are really going to go with AARON ROGERS anyways he would have more then 2 horrible loses to MINNESOTA.. Green bay should just release Brett already and get on with their master plan, and starting Aaron "ive had the best job for 4 years" Rogers

July 20, 2008  11:54 AM ET

its not a win win deal for packers fans. favre should have the class to come back as the backup and mentor the new starting qb if he must come back. anything less is a flipoff to packers fans.

July 20, 2008  12:06 PM ET

GB would be insane to permit this. The least GB management can be expected to do is make it so that Favre has to play in the AFC, if he's going to play. (BTW, the article, which appeared in a Minneosota newspaper, is all speculation and about how good it would be for the Vikings.)

July 20, 2008  12:19 PM ET

George W. Watson...You are correct. This is Minnesota dreaming..No matter what they say, they know what they have at QB now and they would love to upgrade.

July 20, 2008  12:20 PM ET

NEVER HAPPEN! Thompson could not find a safe hiding place in the universe.

TRADE RODGERS if he is ready...what do we owe him?? "Get on board or shut up" somewhere else. You have to earn the right to demand that one, aaron. Finish ONE game intact and maybe we'll consider it. I'll take a bad Favre over him any day

July 20, 2008  12:27 PM ET

I personally would think that Brett would have greater respect for the Packers than to go to a divison rival!! A very messy situation for Favre!

50yearfan

Agree, although Childress has always been pretty high on Tarvaris and his play did improve last year.

On his first play as a Viking, I hope Favre trips and lands on his GINORMOUS head. Get over yourself dude.
Go ride your effing little tractor into the sunset! And I WAS a fan till this month.
Sheeeeeesh.

July 20, 2008  01:04 PM ET

If this is true, Green Bay should let Favre go. They see him as a 'back-up' caliber QB anyway so if they play each other in the future, Green Bay will the a huge advantage since they will be facing Favre who is a back-up QB.

"Pro-Bowl, 1st ballot HOF QB" is resume filler! The Green Bay Packers consider Favre to be no more than a backup QB that they're willing to do completely without! Kind of decreases his value somewhat, don't you think?

Being a Vikings fan, I wanted Favre in Minnesota. But if he were to lead the Vikings to a Super Bowl Championship, GB fans would try steal our thunder because it was their QB that did it.

Therefore, I'd rather see Brett go to Detroit or Chicago to insure the Packers have at least four losses [two to the Vikings and two to Brett's new team] in the NFC North!

July 20, 2008  01:16 PM ET

i agree if this was anyone else they would be considered selfish.
and he could help the team with there future sense green bay was there for him. shame on brett!!!!!

July 20, 2008  01:19 PM ET

shame on brett, for not making up his mind. they should'nt allow him to go to a different team.he should help green bay with there new quarter back. i agree that he is just being selffish now!! remember brett they where there for you all those years.

Hey Brett, do us all a Favre-er. Go away now. Just go.
Don't you have a field to plow?
