Warriors eye Sixers guard

The Warriors, wanting to spare Monta Ellis from inheriting all of Baron Davis' minutes at point guard, are seriously considering signing Philadelphia guard Louis Williams to an offer sheet. It's not yet clear whether Golden State would have enough leftover salary-cap space to extend an offer to Williams sufficiently prohibitive for the 76ers to match. The Warriors are expected to re-sign restricted free agents Ellis and center Andris Biedrins. Williams, 21, averaged 11.5 points and 3.2 assists last season.

Not going to happen... plain and simple. GS has almost no cap room left, and the Sixers have money to play with still (even after signing Brand).

Mac, your post isn't that good. We certainly don't need it four times.

Louis Williams isn't going anywhere. He's a good young player that will get even better with time.

July 21, 2008  10:27 AM ET

Warriors have to do something - Monta Ellis is never going to be a Steve Nash type PG, nor even a Baron Davis. He is best at shooting guard, so W's need to find a better answer at point.

July 21, 2008  10:32 AM ET

Yes they need a point guard but they need a veteran, not another youngster.

July 21, 2008  10:59 AM ET

Williams is restricted. He'll stay with the Sixers. This kid will only get better.

will not happen... not what they need.

July 21, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Thing I like about Golden State is they like to wish big :)

July 21, 2008  11:55 AM ET

A wish list that will not come true...........

July 21, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Wishing Big can be a savior...
however this time they should go for a less valued pg.

Warriors should make a package deal for Marbury in NY since he's no longer wanted there. I am sure Knicks would listen to deals that would eat up his salary.

July 21, 2008  12:32 PM ET

I actually agree with Coco here. Golden State gets a guy that needs a change of scenery and has one more year on his deal anyway, and the Knicks get rid of Stephon. The only problem is that the Knicks are looking to have space for the Class of 2010 so whoever they get back has to be off the books by then.

Coco

The problem with Marbury is as much his attitude as his play. The Warriors need someone Ellis could learn from. In less than a month Marbury would be whining because he wasn't starting. I keep telling you his best option is overseas. Nothing good is going to come from Marbury anymore. Yes, he has talent, but potential without committment or drive is worthless.

July 21, 2008  01:15 PM ET

I agree. No team in the U.S. should allow Marbury on the court.

July 21, 2008  01:42 PM ET

Marbury is done, wasted and done. Waste of time even bringing him up, what a dumb thing to do, bring cancer to Golden State.
