Knicks' doubts about Gallinari

The Knicks ended the Las Vegas summer-league yesterday the way they came in - unsure if 19-year-old rookie Danilo Gallinari will contribute this season. After suffering a back injury in Monday's opener against Cleveland, the Italian Stallion missed the final four games, including yesterday's 111-91 loss to Minnesota in the finale at UNLV's Cox Pavilion to finish 2-3. A team source said the Knicks are considering resting Gallinari the remainder of the summer and request he not play for the Italian national team that gets together in two weeks. The decision could be out of Gallinari's hands as the Italian players are threatening a strike.

He will be a bust anyway, what a waste of a pick, I would have went with DJ Augustine, even Isaiah would not have messed this pick up. He might have paid the pick a billion dollars though.

what is it with guys from this draft being hurt. do they come with their own bandaids?

July 21, 2008  08:03 AM ET

Please reframe from degrading the Rocky Movie Legacy by calling this softy the italian Stallion. Im sure Rocky 7 will do that on its own

July 21, 2008  08:11 AM ET

Where you at, J Hova???

BIG BUST!!!!!

July 21, 2008  08:12 AM ET

Thought the weird picks were done when Thomas left but Walsh should have snagged Augustin

i could be wrong but i am sure that most of the people that are calling gallinari a bust now haven't seen him play too much. spanish and italian euro leauge teams are better than most every college team with a few exceptions. he has been a pro since 15 and he put up some good numbers against some decent competition. give him a chance, and at least watch him play a few nba games before you declare him a bust

July 21, 2008  08:51 AM ET

It's too early to tell if he will be a 'bust'
But as a realistic KNICKS fan....
I am not anticipating he will be a superstar-
so my bar is already low.

That being said- there are alot of good overseas players that can help a team
- ala the toni kucoc mold- not the BEST player on a team- but one that can actually play TEAM ball.

And as for augistin.....I like him- but he is just TOO SMALL to be successful inthe league- was not worth a top 10 pick...IMO

July 21, 2008  09:02 AM ET

He sucks, and so do the Knicks.

July 21, 2008  09:08 AM ET

People who booed him or call him a bust have never seen him play. He is a tough, very talented player with character (in the good way). He was great in Euroleague which is by far a higher competition than facing the Sonics or loser team like that in the NBA. He is also a far far better player than Bargnani so calling him a bust while he still has no minutes is ridiculous.

July 21, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Stop calling his "A BUST". He hasn't played a single NBA game yet.

And besides, the EURO is Ohh so strong against the wobbling DOLLAR that he might realize it is more lucrative playing in Europe right now.

July 21, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I am not close nor is it fair to call him a bust. I did see a good shooting touch. I even saw one or two effort plays.

I also saw no rebounding and no Defense. Unlike most people, I did not think the most glaring need was a PG. I would have taken Randolph from LSU.

I have grave concerns about the Duhon signing. I have even bigger concerns if we sign Roberson from one good game in the summer league. He looks like a jock to me.

I will give the new leadership time, but I do have concerns

July 21, 2008  09:49 AM ET

i said it before and i'll say it again the knicks should of took Jerryd Bayless

July 21, 2008  10:11 AM ET

I love seeing the Knick make blunder after blunder.

July 21, 2008  11:23 AM ET

???Quote??? I could be wrong but I am sure that most of the people that are calling Gallinari a bust now haven't seen him play too much.

The problem is no one has seen him play other then the one game. We ???so far??? have seen just what we thought. Gallinari is a very good to streaky shooter. He looks like he does not rebound, or plays any type of defense. The most glaring need the Knicks have is defense.

July 21, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Doubts about Gallarini contributing this year? I think Knick fans should worry if he'll ever be able to play in the NBA at a high level.

July 21, 2008  11:49 AM ET

Look the guy is 19 and has a great feel for the game. Even when he was not scoring he was helping make the game easy for his team mates and when he turned it on in the second half I was awestruck...

If he is a bust then what is Greg Oden? All you Knick haters need to...

July 21, 2008  12:01 PM ET

The reason I think he'll be good is his fundamental passing, his great shooting, and driving. Good look Danilo

July 21, 2008  12:29 PM ET

I'm here DJ and he's not a bust. Not by a long stretch. The kid will be fine. He just had an injury and this is the Post's way of poking at Knick fans who are convinced he will be a bust before he plays his first real game with the team.

We shall see how he plays when he gets better..I hope he works out because people are already throwing him under the damn bus...
