Redskins expect Taylor for long-term

Jason Taylor, who was not available for comment and is expected to take a physical today in Washington, has talked about playing just one more season before pursuing acting options, but Washington's executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato said he is "100 percent confident he'll play more than one year." The trade capped a whirlwind series of events after Phillip Daniels and Alex Buzbee were injured. Immediately after the second practice, Cerrato told the media, "We haven't talked with anyone yet on anything," and roughly an hour and a half later, the deal was announced.

Exactly what are the Redskins considering "long term"....two years? Good luck Jason! Have fun playing for "the least of the East", dealing with Snyder, meeting Tom Scientologist Cruise, and the 6-10 season your about to get. Sounds so much better than playing for the Dolphins where people loved you.

well playing out the remaining two years on his contract would be 100% more than one year. they gave up too much for this guy.

He goes from 1 loser team to the next ...

July 21, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Taylor got screwed. The Wrath of Parcells lives on.

July 21, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Taylor is consistent. If the Skins can get that consistency out of him for two seasons, the trade seems equitable. I am pessimistic about where his heart is but the NFL is "win now". Taylor taking his 11 sacks to the nation's capital probably doesn't make McNabb, Romo or Manning sleep any better.

The guy wanted to be moved somewhere we he can win, the skins aren't the worst place, they just missed the playoffs last year, and were in alot of games they could of won. I'd check anyones heart that hs been stuck in a Dolphins Jersey the last few years. Winning puts the fun back int he game, if they start winning, I expect he'll be aroudn a bit longer.

July 21, 2008  08:22 AM ET

This guy is at end-of-career: Anybody here think this is a "long term" deal?

This is a joke and the goof is on the Redskin fans.

Good move, Tuna.

glad the fins got something for taylor, cuz he wasn't gonna lead them to the playoffs this year anyways. i just wish he went to a better team like dallas, new york giants, or the jags. he doesn't have much of a shot at winning the super bowl with this team next year, although i do like thier chances for the wild card again as they have a solid team all round, and as long as they get good qb play they could make some noise.

July 21, 2008  08:32 AM ET

yeah he'll last a couple of years and while I don't think the Skins suck per se I also don't think it is one of the teams taylor probably considerd as a legitimate contender.

I hear Brett Favre might be available.
Hey, he's got to go somewhere.

No way the Skins will play better than 8-8 (I actually pick them to go 7-9). With Joe Gibbs gone too? Ouch.

July 21, 2008  08:41 AM ET

they just missed the playoffs last year

Hello Loki, long time no see.

skins made the playoffs last year and, unlike the cowboys, actually won a playoff game....

So you think what's-his-name is an equal swap-out for Gibbs? 7-9, brother, 7-9.

July 21, 2008  08:56 AM ET

And I have SERIOUS doubts about Jason Campbell too!

I agree. Redskins are actually a team to watch. They don't get the credit they deserve. They are a definite Super Bowl contender.

I thought they lost to Seattle.

I think this trade is a way for the Tuna to stick it to the Cowboys a little tiny bit. I can't help but think that Bill envisioned Romo running for his life from Taylor for a couple of games this season.
