Blister sending Wood to DL?

It doesn't appear to be anything close to that worst-case fear since Kerry Wood became the Cubs' closer in March, but the hard-luck pitcher might be headed to the disabled list again as early as tonight. The finger blister he has been battling for weeks, which has sidelined him since July 11, was no better Sunday than it had been for the last few days, and the Cubs aren't counting on him being available tonight or even Tuesday.

Wow... Mr. Glass strikes again.

July 21, 2008  07:47 AM ET

If he had a nickle for every time he went on the DL, he'd be a nickleaire.

I knew once Harden joined the team, Wood would go down. With Prior not around this year, he didn't want to be lonely.

Cubs will choke. Again.

It's a freakin' blister for goodness' sake. Toughen up dude.

Blister, hang nail, urinary tract infection, hair cut too close, gnat bites, will this nancy ever catch a break?

July 21, 2008  09:27 AM ET

After his blown save against the Cardinals I'm willing to let him sit in the corner for three weeks. Mr Ball Four.

THE TRUTH | 07/21/08, 09:19 AM

Nancy...is that your name? Sure you can catch a break. My cousin's name is Nancy...maybe you can do each other's nails.

As for the Cubs, they have too many strong players for one injury to hurt them. The will win their division, and they will be making you and every other **** eat your words.

Since you are one of the biggest mouths on T&R (6896 posts, for Gods sake) and you got nothing good to say about anyone....how's your slider?

Chinese.bookie:

So we have this documented, you are taking MY comments on Carrie Wood and twisting them into some shot at the Cubs' and their season? Secondly, you are getting pissy about someone (Me and about 10,000 others) criticizing Wood's inability to stay healhty? Right? That's your stance so we are clear. I win, you are dimissed.

July 21, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Hey Tell it, I recall that the Brewers have their own special little history of choking down the stretch. You need to look no further than their Gag classic of last September. Hard to place such faith on a team that hasn't smelled the playoffs since M.A.S.H. was still airing.

Brewers will choke, Again.

Mr Chinese Bookie:

Your rash and impulsive comments lend no credence to your hero in the picture above. You would be better served if you focused your energy on stealing pencils from quadrapalegics.

July 21, 2008  09:44 AM ET

Tell It Like It Is - I've got to hand it to you......you did call Wood going to the DL as soon as the Cubs acquired Harden. Well done, my friend.

July 21, 2008  09:51 AM ET

What? No clever comeback?

I hope so. The Cardinals are my National League team, my friend. And since the Cubs and Brewers both have a history of gagging, it's looking better for the Redbirds.

10Rings, how long until Harden joins his DL buddy on the sideline?

July 21, 2008  01:13 PM ET

For God's sake Kerry it is a BLISTER! Hopefully Marmol finds his stuff again and, if he does, this shouldn't hurt much at all...

For all of you saying the Cubs will choke, I simply have no response. There isn't really a comeback for that. However, I think we are different than the teams you are used to seeing. I can't convince you otherwise, I will just say that come October, I have a feeling we will be there and be a force in the NL.

Blisters have known to bring down even the mightiest of pitchers. Just soak it in cider.

He should be p.i.s.s.i.n.g on his hands like Moises Alou. Or maybe Alou could p.i.s.s on Woods' blister. I see a business opportunity here...Alou's Magic Anti-Blister tonic.
