Cowboys outside linebacker Greg Ellis, unhappy with his current status and unable to get a meeting with Jerry Jones to discuss it, wants to be traded, released or have his contract restructured. Ellis said that Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager, had planned to meet with him, but changed his mind. Jones said he doesn't meet with players under contract.

A GM who refuses to met with players under contract?

June 8, 2007  09:26 AM ET

Jones is in danger of becoming Al Davis Jr

June 8, 2007  10:03 AM ET

they should trade him, cause next year they'll draft another lb/de like the past ten years.

June 8, 2007  10:21 AM ET

I thought the only player that spoke out against Dallas was TO, I guess its Ellis' time again didn't he do this last yr. Marco Rivera is gone too?? What's happening in Dallas??

June 8, 2007  10:32 AM ET

Just for the record... TO never spoke out against Dallas. The Media just likes to portray it that way. In the beginning of this year he spoke out about Parcells, but last year there were no real problems.

June 8, 2007  11:11 AM ET

First of all, this Ellis disgruntlement is nothing new. He squawked about being moved to OLB by Parcells, and now he's squawking about money, for the 2nd year in a row.

The reason he's doing this now is because he's a 31 year old football player, with 10 years of the NFL wear and tear on his body, and he's coming off a season that ended in injury. And oh yeah, they drafted a guy they want to replace him with in the 1st round in Anthony Spencer.

He's trying to get as much coin as he can, because the writing is on the wall.

Jones may have handled it in a poor manner by changing his mind about meeting him, but I can't say I blame him for not wanting to re-negotiate, even in simple terms. It opens Pandora's Box, and the guy he's talking to isn't all that great of an investment even as is.

June 8, 2007  12:19 PM ET

**** and honor a contract, play ball girlie man.

June 8, 2007  12:20 PM ET

GREAT! I was wondering what was going to push TO in to his next disaster and now I know ---- A lesser-known and actually decent cowboy is getting a headline!! Start the stop watch, I think I see TO starting to pop pills now so expect an ambulance trip shortly........ The impending implosion of this team is going to be great!!!

Oh and I have no idea how not meeting with players under contract is supposed to make for a happy team but then again, nothing else is working in big D.

June 8, 2007  01:18 PM ET

Sounds like Jerry's pulling a Tex Schram - "Oh, don't listen to all your buddy's from other teams Greg - they aren't making more $$ than you". PLEASE! The Cowboys have always been the tightest organization in the NFL when it comes to paying their players.

June 8, 2007  01:52 PM ET

It really seemed going well for Ellis and the Dallas defense before his injury eventhough he didn't feel comfortable playing under Parcell's 3-4. I have more of a problem with Julius Jones not attending the OTA's. I guess he doesn't want to be a Cowboy anymore. I say trade these disgruntled Cowboys and get something in return.

June 8, 2007  02:07 PM ET

To Mr. Bust, I mean Heath Shuler. Why are you criticizing the Cowboy organization for being so tight, when Mr. Daniel Snyder overpays his players and go nowhere?

June 8, 2007  02:32 PM ET

the cowboys aren't going anywhere either

June 8, 2007  02:38 PM ET

Just defending my 'Boys busayo.

June 8, 2007  02:45 PM ET

the Cowboys have always been the tightest organization in paying their players??????

if you followed footbal for the last 20 years you would know how stupid that statement is since they just gave leonard davis a $19 million signing bonus, paid terrell owens $10 for last season and at one time made deion sanders the highest paid player in history

just because our slary cap is not maxed out every year like your stupid team the redskins does not make us cheap----just smart, something you or your stupid owner danny snyder would knoe NOTHING about

stay off the Cowboys board gimp!!!!!!!!!!

and to art monk is god, have fun this summer when Michael Irvin is being inducted in to the Hall of Fame

June 8, 2007  03:05 PM ET

Switzbeats, I had your back until the Michael Irvin comment - I mean does anyone really want to claim association with him, HOF or not. What a joke!

BUT to your point about the "Heath Shuler" comments, I agree with you. Those make no sense to me at all and he's clearly talking out of his a*s. Funniest part is that I know "Heath Shuler" and he is no way a Skins fan, his name is a slam to my Skins. He's actually a Chargers fan and let's be honest, discussions of CHEAP organizations should START with the Chargers. Even questioning whether to resign Gates or Turner or their top tier defenders every year, pains me as a football fan, Chargers or not. They are OBSCENELY cheap and he is calling out Dallas?!?!?!?!

June 8, 2007  03:48 PM ET

Regarding Michael Irvin-----

All of the Cowboys big-time players from the '90s(Aikman, Emmitt, Novacheck, Moose, Deion, Norton, Woodson, etc) plus Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson will tell you that Michael Irvin is the best teammate and leader that they ever played with. This will be demonstrated at his Hall of Fame induction later this summer when dozens of his former teammates are there.

All of his off the field problems were self-destructive issues, he was never violent against anyone else(excpet when he stabbed everett mciver in the neck with scissors for messing up his haircaut, but that is understandable--i would jack somebody up if they messed up my haircut). He is not a bad guy, he has just made some stupid

Yes he had drug and women problems but he openly admits this and shares the fact that he had made many mistakes. But he tries to become a better person every day and teach others not to make the same mistakes that he did. That is much more commendable than a lot of the jokers today(vick, pacman, sean taylor, portis, etc.) that pass the blame for their actions on to others

I have been lucky enough to meet him a few times over the past 5 years at different super bowls and he is as nice a celebrity as you will ever meet. I saw him in at the Clevelander hotel in Miami this past year on the night that he got voted into the Hall of Fame. I congratulated him and told him how happy I was for him and you could really tell how greatful and humbled he was by the whole experience.

So I am proud to claim association with him and the Dallas Cowboys

June 8, 2007  05:34 PM ET

OK so switzbeats is Michael's brother - nice to know. I mean COME ON, should we call him Saint Michael!

"he was never violent against anyone else(excpet when he stabbed everett mciver in the neck with scissors for messing up his haircaut, but that is understandable--i would jack somebody up if they messed up my haircut). He is not a bad guy, he has just made some stupid .." HAHAHAHHAHAHA - WHAT?!?!?!?!?

I never said he wasn't a great teammate - so are a lot of the headcases you referenced but will someone please do something to get him off the air - he's going to talk his way out of the HOF. He is the worst NFL commentator I have ever heard and embarasses the league and the Boyz fans every time he opens his mouth.

I like how you try to call out Portis???? I will give you Sean Taylor, def a complete punk allbeit a great safety but Portis?! B/c he spoke his mind?!?!?! Michael Irvin has had as many spout-offs as anyone (other than TO) so don't get on Portis for joking about dog-fighting. Ridiculous!

Would you like to nominate Nate Newton for President next!?!?!?

June 8, 2007  05:39 PM ET

Nate Newton? How about Barry Switzer??

June 8, 2007  11:58 PM ET

Art Monk should be in the hall of Fame. I think Ellis has a right to at least sit down with the coaching staff and have some assurance on what his role will be since the drafting of A. Spencer. The flip side is, if I was Ellis I keep my mouth shut and train harder in the offseason and prove myself on the field. To Dallas Cowboy fans welcome back to having your owner making the draft picks and signing off on trades, just as I have suffered with Danny BOY Synder and the Redskins. Never works when a team is run by a Dictator.
