Nady, Marte drawing heavy interest

Outfielder Xavier Nady and reliever Damaso Marte continue to draw the most interest for the Pirates and, for that reason, they remain most likely to go. But neither will be given away. Two prospects will be sought for each. Nady's prime suitors remain the Tampa Bay Rays -- who might be the favorite because of their wealth of prospects -- and the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves. Marte's suitors are a dozen deep. Teams discouraged by Marte's price are asking again about John Grabow, now that he is back on the mound. Shortstop Jack Wilson and outfielder Jason Bay have also received interest from other teams.

I'd like to see Marte in a Cardinal uniform, but I don't think he is worth giving up a lot for. I wouldn't surrender Rasmus or Anderson. I would, though deal Joe Mather and one of the ML pitchers, such as Mike Parisi or Mitchell Boggs

I don't think Atlanta should be in the buying market. They're playing horrible ball and should be dealing players like Tex who won't be around next year.

July 21, 2008  11:00 AM ET

TR - I'd go for that.

July 21, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Bay and Nady two ncie corner outfielders. Marte a nice lefty hmmm, re: the yankess? Marte vs Traber? no contest. With the bay and nady thing, vs abreu? it all depends on the costs and age over the long haul of course. They(yankees) are not the only one's talking here. Tampa has a lot of young good talent to offer, if anything if the price is right will go to the rays.

Hang on to Nady. Kick the starting pitchers in the butt and tell them to start earning their millions.

July 21, 2008  12:57 PM ET

For once, I'd like to see the PIrates make a good trade.

July 21, 2008  02:23 PM ET

When was their last one???

July 21, 2008  03:28 PM ET

Anything more recent than Van Slyke for Pena? That trade was good for both teams.

July 21, 2008  03:56 PM ET

The trade that brought JayBay from SD was a good one. Not that Oliver Perez worked out so well, but Bay mos def has.

July 21, 2008  04:29 PM ET

That was a great trade Elder18. I never realized Bay came form the Padres. Doesn't seem like anyone wanted Bay until he got to Pittsburgh.

July 21, 2008  04:45 PM ET

The Bay and Perez for Giles (to SD) was very good for the Bucs.

Also, Nady to the Mets for Perez and Hernandez has worked out well.

The problem for the Bucs has been too many minor leaguers for the Joe Randa's of the world.

New GM, maybe better result. Hit the bidding war at it's peak Neil!!!!

July 21, 2008  06:39 PM ET

I think Bay started off in Montreal. Not sure what deal took him to SD.

July 21, 2008  07:46 PM ET

He also went through the Mets on the way. That's why I said it appears no one wanted to keep him.

July 21, 2008  10:02 PM ET

pitt , needs to stop makin bad trades and start tryin to build a competitive team for a change

July 22, 2008  12:11 AM ET

Strange that someone as talented as Bay would jump around so much at such a young age.

July 22, 2008  03:50 AM ET

Remember that scene in ALIEN when that crazy snake thing burst out of that guys chest?

...Now go look at this T&R photo again.

Ooooooooo.........

July 23, 2008  02:12 PM ET

keep nady and marte and trade bay for some pitchinmg help.if the pirates are seeking pitching why would they give up their best pitcher to get it

July 23, 2008  11:53 PM ET

Arnold08, I think Braves SHOULD BE buyers. They can trade for a couple pieces of the puzzle to fix problems brough on by injuries, and increase the offense a bit, and be right back in the race with a couple 5-game win streaks or something. They haven't lost much ground in standings, while Mets, Phillies (and even Marlins) exchange wins. BUT sadly I think they will be sellers.
