Mets manager expects a new bat

With the July 31 trade deadline 10 days away, Mets manager Jerry Manuel said yesterday he expects the team will be able to make a move. "I think because of the position we're in, I think it's going to be entertained very strongly," he said. "I think any team that is where we are or feels like they have a shot at this point in the season, with the deadline and the way we've played, I think that'd be strongly entertained." Manuel has made it no secret he'd like to see general manager Omar Minaya pick up a big bat for the outfield. Matt Holliday, Jason Bay and even Xavier Nady are probably out of the Mets' reach, so he might have to "settle" for Seattle's Raul Ibanez or Cleveland's Casey Blake.

If you want a "big bat" go see Harry Reems !!!

ibanez would work perfect in the lineup because you can hit him 5th and then move easily to the eighth spot where he should help if he stays at hot as hes been...I think if you do this then you just rotate tatis and chavez every other day to keep them fresh and occasionally give ibanez the day off maybe once a week or so.

i think ibanez helps big time...bat him 5th and move easily chavez and tatis around and if church comes back and you got chavez and tatis off the bench that is killer....imagine this line-up 1. reyes 2. church/chavez 3. wright 4. beltran 5. ibanez/tatis 6. delgado 7. easily 8. schneider/castro 9. Pitcher's spot.... that could be nasty in certain situations watch out philly!!!

Ibanez does have the edge over Casey in the age requirements.

We Cardinal fans have been there with the old aging outfield. It didn't work out all that well. Get some young legs for the late summer heat.

What do the Mets have to give up for Blake, Nady, Ibanez or anyone else? Their farm system isn't exactly overflowing with prospects.

I would love to see Bay in a Mets uniform

the mets dont have the prospects to trade for bay. ibanez would be an excellent fit for the mets even if church can come back giving them 4 very capable corner outfielders in church, ibanez, tatis, n chavez
