With baseball's trade deadline in 10 days, one rumor has Los Angeles Angels utility player Robb Quinlan and minor league third baseman Brandon Wood headed to Atlanta for slugger Mark Teixeira, who can become a free agent at season's end.

Nice rumor. It is so unlikely that the Angels would pay the Braves asking price. They are tight when it comes to giving up pitching and there is no way the Braves will trade him without getting on of the young arms the Angels have.

The Angels want to become a "rumored" killing machine going into the second half of the season.

Teixeira isn't going anywhere but to auction in the off season.

July 22, 2008  07:37 AM ET

that doesn't seem like much. Isn't Quinlan a scrub and wood a light hitting infield prospect who doesn't really exceed at anything? I think they can do better or should take the comp picks.

Say it ain't so, sir Robin.

Too early to bail....wonder what they know that we don't???????

July 22, 2008  08:48 AM ET

The Braves surely will get more than that. If that's all the Angels are offering, the Braves should keep him, play to win, and get the draft picks.

I would't trade Mark Ellis for those 2. The comp picks are a better choice

July 22, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Sounds like a rumor.....why would the Braves take only two prospects (and no pitching) for Tex? The next 5 games against Fla/Philly will tell the story; if ATL doesn't take at least 3 of the next 5, they may try to move him by the deadline.

The Braves better get some serious talent because they will also be getting rid of Chipper Jones' bat as teams pitch around him. This would be the proverbial towel being tossed.

I don't think there is a good trade partner for the Braves with Tex. My guess is that he stays in Atlanta through the end of the season.

July 22, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Do not believe this rumor.. he will wait and want big money.

July 22, 2008  09:55 AM ET

No way Atlanta would ask for that little unless they are seeing something the Angels don't. Quinlan has proven to only be a replacement level reserve 1B, 3B, or corner outfielder while Wood hasn't proven that he can hit big league pitching and seems to be another one of the over hyped Angels non-pitching prospects destined to disappoint. Atlanta would be better off taking the draft picks after Tex walks.

6 back with 60 to go and they're gonna give up? **BAM**(bangs gavel) If they do this, I'll find this organization guilty by reason of insanity.
