Daniel: No grudge against Texas
Posted: Tuesday July 22, 2008 06:43AM ET
If Tim Tebow doesn't do an Archie Griffin and repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner, Missouri's Chase Daniel may be next in line. Besides the Heisman, Daniel addressed all kinds of subjects Monday, including the Big 12 title game loss to Oklahoma, the Cotton Bowl romp over Arkansas and his spring audience with tycoon Warren Buffett. Oh and he was asked about Texas' return to the Missouri schedule and if that would provide any extra incentive after the Longhorns declined to recruit Daniel out of Southlake Carroll. "No, not all," Daniel said. "I wasn't mad at Texas when I wasn't being recruited by them. I'd already committed [to Missouri]. It was a business decision. I wasn't their guy. That's how the dice rolled. I couldn't be happier than I am right now."

"If the shoe fits......." If your going to be the man on/for the team, then so be it, and if you can't....go somewhere else.

Report Offensive CommentThis is all just hype for the October 18th game in Austin. Stupid sportswriter is beating the drum already. Why can't newspapers find a better class of writers about sports? They all seem to s uck.

Report Offensive CommentColt McCoy was Vince Young's replacement? Why? This Daniels guy is the best pocket passer in football.

Report Offensive CommentFrontrunner? When I hear Heisman talk I hear Tebow, Moreno, and Wells. Daniel is good but not frontrunner good.
Personally, I think it's Tebow's to lose. I know a lot of people don't like the guy but in that offense he's going to get his numbers.

Really? Tebow is tough, probably one of the better QB's in the game. I'm not a fan personally, but to do what he did the SEC of all places, thats impressive, and he seems to have his head on straight, what more can you ask of your QB?

There is really no comparison between Tebow and Daniel at the moment. The one plays in the toughest conference in the nation, the other in, well, something less than that. Although passing stats are similar, for Tebow to have racked up the stats that he did is impressive. Don't get me wrong: Daniel is a fine QB, but, at this point, before the season, Tebow is better. Things may change.

That's funny, I thought that Mizzou lost to OU. Little did I know that it was only Chase Daniel!
Also, I think an argument can certainly be made for Chase being a Heisman front runner. As impressive as Wells and Moreno were last year, Daniel was moreso. Assuming both stay healthy, I think this is a two horse race between him and Tebow.
cowace2 | 07/22/08, 04:02 PM
Report Offensive CommentThis is a small point, I know, but Mizzou did thrash an SEC team in the Cotton Bowl. I believe it was the same SEC team that beat LSU. To say the SEC is better than the Big 12 is meaningless. The conferences are both good, with neither having an obvious advantage.

Report Offensive CommentI expect that he Big 12 QB's will outshine those SEC QB's this year totally. Graham Harrell, Chase Daniel, Colt McCoy (will bounce back), Sam Bradford and Reesing will all make things happen this year!!!!!!
Tx_Longhorn_Phan | 07/22/08, 04:20 PM
Report Offensive CommentJust an FYI - Sophomore Jeremy Maclin is Mizzou's best offensive player and will go very high in the draft when he comes out. If the Heisman were washed of politics, I'd put my money on Maclin.
joedeluca | 07/22/08, 04:20 PM
Report Offensive CommentAll good points. I still ride with Tebow though. Until Urban finds a running back, Tebow is going to get the call to run that ball into the end zone from 5 to 10 yards out. He can very easily put up another 50 plus TD season, and if Florida has a better season overall (lets say SEC Champion and BCS bowl) then he has to win the Heisman again.
