More moves in store for Giants

Giants general manager Brian Sabean should have some money to spend this winter, but on whom? There will be some good hitters available, including Aaron Rowand's good friend from the White Sox, third baseman Joe Crede, and Atlanta first baseman Mark Teixeira - but this winter's free-agent class is not going to be a grand bazaar of offensive production. Moreover, the Giants' play during a just-completed 1-8 stretch against three playoff-caliber teams, the Mets, Cubs and Brewers, drove home the point that they need much more than one big hitter to become a good team. Other experienced players could be moved by the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline (or even afterward in waiver deals). Rich Aurilia could be attractive to a contending team that needs a versatile right-handed hitter off the bench. Tyler Walker would be a nice fit for a team that needs help bridging its starter and closer.

As far as the Giants are concerned, ANYTHING will help them. Sign Brett Favre, that's a good start!!! lmao.

they giants suck and will always suck

July 22, 2008  07:20 AM ET

They just got rid of one huge selfish ego. Why would they want another?

We got a term for wealthy young women dating older men - high class hookers.

Are you getting hits off this spamming? If so, we want names.

July 22, 2008  08:23 AM ET

The problem is,of course, that neither Aurilia nor Walker will entice a contending team to give up a big bat, or even a decent prospect.

Bring back Bonds!!!

July 22, 2008  08:49 AM ET

To get a big bat in trade, the Giants will have to give up one of its young pitchers.

Looking forward to those throwbacks appearing on EBAY.

July 22, 2008  09:33 AM ET

The only way ATL should deal with the Giants is to offer a one-for-one, straight up trade: Tex for Lincecum.....we need a pitcher who can make quality starts. Now, back to reality......LOL :-)

July 22, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Giants need a huge fire sale.. what a mess when a team is built around an aging slugger.

July 22, 2008  10:49 AM ET

I hear Barry Bonds is looking for work.

July 22, 2008  11:30 AM ET

The Giants have little except the three young starters. It's incredible how bad and power-devoid their lineup is

July 22, 2008  01:18 PM ET

Barry Bonds is on EBAY, there is a "buy it now" button next to him.

July 22, 2008  04:50 PM ET

The Giants can finally get him for what he is worth too, the league minimum.

Would love to see their SS with the Red Sox for the rest of the year !!!
