Latest twist to Jets-Baker feud

The Pete Kendall-esque staredown between the Jets and disgruntled tight end Chris Baker took another ugly turn yesterday when the club placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he will not be joining his teammates on the field when training camp begins Thursday. If he were to remain on the list once the regular season begins, he would be stuck there for six weeks. Baker, who missed the last two practices of minicamp last month with a sore back, has blasted the Jets over what he maintains is a broken promise regarding his contract, which has two years remaining. He requested a trade before the draft - which saw the Jets trade up into the first round for Purdue TE Dustin Keller. Veteran TE Bubba Franks had been signed earlier during the free agency period. "Something has been promised and it hasn't happened," Baker has been quoted as saying.

Physically Unable to Perform list = Fat and Obnoxious

Bubba Franks is a pretty fair TE, and an even better pass blocker. The Jets are still the Jets....maybe they may want to take Favre off our hands while there at it! DOHH!

That's one way to get rid of a distraction in training camp

... and Mangini continues to dig his own grave. He he he.

July 22, 2008  08:18 AM ET

The difference between Baker and Kendall is Kendall was actually a good player.

Money, get away.
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay.
Money, it's a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team.

Money, get back.
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it's a hit.
Don't give me that do goody good ****.
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet.

Money, it's a crime.
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie.
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
giving none away.

"HuHuh! I was in the right!"
"Yes, absolutely in the right!"
"I certainly was in the right!"
"You was definitely in the right. That geezer was cruising for a
bruising!"
"Yeah!"
"Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him, he couldn't get into number 2. He was asking
why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out"

What the Jets need is Brett Favre.

July 22, 2008  08:59 AM ET

Who? Cut him.

July 22, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Honor the contract that you signed. What's so complicated about that? I'm psyched that Mangini brought Franks and Keller on board. I'm tired of players holding their teams hostage.

July 22, 2008  09:42 AM ET

if it is not in writing looks like you are up a creek with out a paddle. didn't he learn anything in college?

July 22, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Bubba Franks is done. Stick a fork in him and you'll see.

Baker should shut up, get into camp and prove he is worth more money.

July 22, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Baker how bout you make a pro bowl or somethin before you start whining for a new contract

July 22, 2008  12:56 PM ET

I have to agree with Longoria on this but considering the Jets traded up for Keller and acquired a decent TE in Bubba Franks they are better off dealing Baker and just avoid having another malcontent in that locker room.

This is the season that Eric has to focus on getting that "Mangenius" title back and having a disgruntled Baker is the last thing he needs.

The Jets may still be the Jets...but I recall vividly how the Jets absolutely blasted Farve and your Packers less then two years ago--in Lambeau field. What was it, 30-0 before the Jets called the dogs off? Oh - it was cold that day too!

Jets back to playoffs this year while the Pack go 8-8 in a rebuilding year and watch the Vikings dominate the division.

July 22, 2008  02:03 PM ET

Unfortunately, the Skins do not need a TE

July 22, 2008  02:29 PM ET

baker, good pass-catcheer when he gets open, bblocking sucks, has yet to prove himself, maybe never. shut up n play.

Poor Jets fans. All they have is 2 years ago.

Playoffs? Playoffs? Your coach will be out of a job by the playoffs. He he he.

No, you need a coach. Without Joe Gibbs you are in deep doo-doo. 7-9 deep.
