Glenn, Cowboys to end stalemate?

The summer-long soap opera starring Terry Glenn and the Cowboys could end soon. On Monday, coach Wade Phillips said he's hopeful a peaceful resolution can occur by Friday, the day the team has its first training camp practice in Oxnard, Calif. The Cowboys want the veteran receiver to sign an injury waiver that would give him $500,000 if he re-injures his right knee. The team has told him he can't practice with the team without the waiver. But Glenn, coming off two surgeries to his right knee before last season, is scheduled to make $1.74 million this season. He said he doesn't want to sign the waiver because he deems it unfair. Team officials have told Glenn and his agent, James Gould, that he will be released if he doesn't sign the waiver. Glenn told the team to release him, then backed off. Now, with training camp approaching, it appears the sides will talk again this week in an attempt to solve their problems.

I understand the Cowgirls are looking after their investment, but it really seems borderline unfair to force a player to sign another contract on top of the one he is already under. If the girls don't think he will hold up this season, then give him his release for health causes (failure to pass the team physical..etc.), and not pull this crap.

Don't turn this into an Israel vs Palestine endless battle. "Sign the waiver and play, don't sign the waiver and go away." That's what management said in the beginning and it doesn't look as though anything has changed.

just sign the waiver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And let me guess, you think the **** should also give Favre the starting position back! The reason the Cowboys are asking for this waiver is because Glenn would not have the corrective surgery that the Cowboys were recommending last year. Instead, Glenn wanted to have a better chance of being able to play last year rather than waiting for this year. The Cowboys paid Glenn a truck load of money last year for two games and now this year want to protect themselves a little. Sign the waiver Glenn and be thankful for the Cowboys paying you millions of dollars last year for no production.

Smart man. Get on the bus to Oxnard, Calif. and get some TV time on Hard Knocks.

July 22, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Increase the waiver to $750.000, sign it. Dont' get hurt. Everyone is happy. Geez.

July 22, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Cowgirls, how original. Why aren't you writing for the New Yorker? Terry Glenn got $5.82 million for essentially four plays last season. Yet it is unfair for the Cowboys to offer to pay him $500,000 instead of $1.74 million if he is unable to perform? I wish life was so "unfair" to me.

Also, read the article before commenting. Communications to Glenn & his agent were: sign the waiver or be released.

Know it all, enlighten us. Personally, I haven't seen any evidence of knowledge whatsoever. I hope you are not a school teacher.

Why do the Cowboys want this idiot back? Cut him, sign a younger guy for less money. He didn't do anything last year anyway.

The Cowboys can't just get rid of Glenn. When he is healthy he is a major threat. The question is, can he stay healthy and be productive for the entire season. In 2006, many would have considered Glenn to be the No. 1 threat for defenses to worry about, not T.O. Hopefully Glenn can do something this year, unlike last year when he was a waste of a spot on the roster!

Tell it like it is,
Why is Terry Glenn an idiot? He didn't do anything last year because he was hurt.

July 22, 2008  09:18 AM ET

This is part of the NFL no one wants to talk about. The team has all the control. If Glenn doesn't sign a new deal he will be cut. This is why players try to get as much money up front as they can.

July 22, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Glenn got alot of money up front. He got $5 million for 2 catches last year. Sign the waiver and get to camp.

July 22, 2008  09:29 AM ET

unfair was his sitting on the side lines collecting money and not playing all year. it's not like this guy played but a couple of games last season. he has a history of injury problems. they did not say hey Terry you are not playing and not earning your contract money so let's negoiate, they paid him. he was advised by doctors to have microfracture surgery which at his age will end his career. All Dallas is saying if you want to risk it that's fine we tend to believe doctors when it comes to medical stuff. if you don't get hurt we pay you your salery, kind of paying for the ammount of services he is giving.

Sign the damn waiver Glenn. You haven't played in almost 2 full seasons.
