Iverson the next Nugget to be dealt?

Marcus Camby has been shown to the city line. Could Allen Iverson be the next high-dollar player to be drop-kicked out of Denver by the cost-cutting Nuggets? Indications are the Nuggets would trade Iverson if the deal was right. With an expiring $20.84 million contract, he would be an ideal acquisition for a team looking to clear salary-cap room for next summer in one swoop. If the Nuggets dealt Iverson, the key would be to get first-round draft choices and/or young prospects. The Nuggets might have to take back some longer contracts, but, if they're out of the luxury tax and not trying to carve out cap room in 2010, that might not be such a bad deal.

get rid of him and clear cap space for a number one option in 2010. Melo can't get it done.

July 22, 2008  09:28 AM ET

But he looks so cute when he and Mello play dress alike.

July 22, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Yeah especially with Camby gone, they stand no chance in the west with their lay-up drill defense. Blow it up and rebuild around Melo and another franchise player

if the clippers want to serious contenders and get people through the gate look at this trade

a.iverson to the clippers for a.thornton, t.thomas and c.mobley

this would save the nuggets a few million straight up on the cap and luxury and for having to take on mobley and thomas for this season and next they get a young player really on the rise in thornton (people need to think long term and cap room in 2010)

b.davis and a.iverson would be a fantastic backcourt (no one is more durable than a.i - plays more minutes than anyone and the baron tends to guard the 2 so it would be the perfect backcourt duo)

good one cho_mamma, I just shot dr.pepper out my nose laughing at that one.

July 22, 2008  09:46 AM ET

Iverson still has game and can help allot of teams..

July 22, 2008  09:49 AM ET

They might as well get rid of him. They can't win a thing with the team they have because defensively, they suck. He is an all-nba player wherever he goes.

July 22, 2008  09:52 AM ET

heat should trade him for marion

July 22, 2008  09:52 AM ET

the nuggets should trade carmelo never mind iverson. iverson is the best player on that team and one of the few who play hard every game. trade melo while his value as a "franchise player" is still reasonably high and let AI contract expire after the season. cap room and fresh players to a team that hasnt lived up to potential.

July 22, 2008  09:55 AM ET

winkstrap

why would the clippers want to do this. it would kill their pay roll with davis, camby, kaman, contracts already. and i dont think getting AI is going to help them win a championship. thornton is going to turn into a beast of a player and he compliments davis better. plus if he goes to denver he would be behind melo. they already have their SG of the future in gorden.

July 22, 2008  09:55 AM ET

First off, nobody's gonna take Iverson's $20 million contract. Second, boywonder, why would you trade a 23 year old kid that is a freak athlete and can already score as much as anybody? Listening to people talk you'd think that Melo is 35. I bet he surprises a lot of people this year. And Heat Fan, Iverson for Marion? Are you kidding? Tell me how that trade even makes sense.

July 22, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Trade marion and blount for iverson
heat win out big time clearing cap and denver still win with Marions contract ending next year as well

July 22, 2008  10:04 AM ET

rockin ya face before you make these comments check the clippers payroll
by adding a couple more million now they would just reach the cap limit and when they sign a couple of role players be in the threshold hence not paying any luxury tax

the clippers also get rid of thomas and mobleys contracts this season and next,
resign iverson like baron and the backcourt is set with e.gordon coming off the bench

July 22, 2008  10:04 AM ET

This will be a hard trade, because the teams that have the $ to make it happen , don't need Iverson. If the Nuggets do deal him, they won't get much up front, maybe in the long run though, it could pay off. (younger players, higher draft picks)

P.S. Welcome back Heat Fan. I was starting to worry, I hadn't heard one of your delusional trade options in awhile!.....lol

July 22, 2008  10:09 AM ET

if u really wanna trade him AI for marbury and lee sounds about right.
but like someone said above, i would rather get rid of melo before others find out he is not ur mature franchise player to build around.

July 22, 2008  10:09 AM ET

heat should trade him for marion

July 22, 2008  10:29 AM ET

NO..not unless he is willing to be 6th man

July 22, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Iverson has now hit the "traded every two years" stage of his career... send him to the Knicks, Clippers, Warriors,
