Seattle cop lectures Manny

Seems that Boston slugger Manny Ramirez was leaving Safeco Field, with headphones on trying to look inconspicuous and quickly get away from the crowds still leaving the stadium. He started to cross South Royal Brougham Way, against the signals of a traffic cop who was directing pedestrians. The police officer demanded that Ramirez open his wallet and show identification. He warned him that he could face a $500 fine and possible arrest for disobeying a police officer. It became clear to those watching that the policeman had no idea who Ramirez was. He didn't ask for an autograph or anything, but did ask Ramirez if he'd attended the game. After the brief lecture, and no argument from Ramirez, the police officer let him go with no further trouble.

WHO?

Who called this into the Seattle times?

Manny being Manny strikes again!

July 23, 2008  06:03 AM ET

Just retired from the military (Ft. Lewis, WA 1st Corps) and have been stopped by the "Federales" myself on "routine" traffic stop(s). They have stiff fines for everything over there. $500 for chuck'n a smoke out your window, and if I remember right $850 for no proof of insurance. Not that I'm admitting anything!! That how they get the money for paying for new things....like SAFECO field.....just saying!

Just a note....if anyone wants to know what patch is on CDR Shepard's uniform during the computer game "Mass Effect" it is a 1st Corps patch...just trivia info for those interrested. Not that I am CDR Shepard....just saying...lmao.

and we are supposed to care....why?

July 23, 2008  08:14 AM ET

I'm starting to think that Manny got ahold of some cheap weed treated with paraquat and it's starting to hit him wrong

When guys like Manny start acting abnormally erratic you gotta figure some weird shee-ite is filtering down in their doobage....

July 23, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Shoulda thrown him in the clink.

IMO the fine for throwing a smoke out the window should be more. It's littering and it's a fire hazard.

I think this is hilarious. It takes a while to find the actual story but along the way I found these two quotes:

Terry Francona, who, when informed of last night's jaywalking by Manny Ramirez, quipped: "OK, that's the last straw. I'm not playing him.''

Ramirez is indeed in tonight's lineup as the DH. He'll match up, rather well, I might add. Ramirez's response to the jaywalking story? "It's OK. Don't worry about it!'' he said, raising his hands.

At least MAnny knows enough not to push around the fuzz with all sorts of witnesses. See Manny ain't that stupid. :)

July 23, 2008  08:52 AM ET

cop should have waived him into oncoming traffic

July 23, 2008  09:19 AM ET

boy is this a pointless thread

July 23, 2008  09:22 AM ET

guess out of boston he isn't much of anyone. maybe Manny should stop being manny and figure out that NOT every one cares what he does

the other question that came to my mind: is no limo?????? Maybe Manny actually likes the anonimity that cities like Seattle bring. who knows. I think this is a funny story and no Manny was very cooperative and shut his trap.

Who knows...maybe their hotel in Seattle is across the street from the Stadium.

But odds are 50/50 that he was lost.
