Why Twins are reluctant traders

Major league baseball's trade deadline is eight days away, and the Twins have been looking for and talking about ways to improve their club. There is one sensitive concern for the front office, however, and that's whether a deal could disrupt the cohesiveness of a club that surprisingly has remained in contention midway through the season.

Same article with two different headlines. That's lame T&R.

That is the one thing that has made the Twins as good as they are for a small market club. Why bring in someone that will disrupt that? I am surprised as anyone that they have remained in contention for as long as they have. There are folks down on the farm that could fill any hole.

The Twins FO is consistently full of c.r.a.p.

nothing surprising about this team...if people had looked past losing Santana and Hunter, they could have seen that the Twins have a plethora of good young starters, that Morneau and Mauer had off years last year and would surely be better this year...heck, if anything, the team would be better if Cuddyer hadn't been hurt so much, if Young had produced all season like he's capable of instead of just the last few weeks, if Gardy would have demoted Gomez to the 9 hole earlier...

This team hasn't suprised me one bit...I was in here before the season started saying the team woud be better this year than last and listed these reasons (though I figured Young and Cuddyer would be more of a part of it)

why would you try to fix something that isn't really broken, they are way a head of where every one expected them to be after trading away the "big" names. they don't need to trade what is working..

July 23, 2008  09:21 AM ET

They need a power hitting, right handed 3B bad, they need to put Liriano is Livan's spot, Cuddyer needs to come back, Span needs to go to center and leadoff, and Gomez needs to go to the minors and work on his whole game...

I agree with most of it. Gomez needs to get his act together and the majors is not the place for it. I also think that Buscher will come through before it is all over and done.

July 23, 2008  09:57 AM ET

I like Buscher, but he's another left handed bat on a team full of left handed bats...and he doesn't hit for power...

Ifin you were to trade for a power right handed hitter, who would you get rid of? Other than Everett and Lamb.

The Twins really need to acquire a couple of infielders. This team is pretty solid, and could pass the White Sox before long.

Lame

They should bring up Liariano, trade Slowey or Perkens to Seattle for Belrtea. They could also consider trading Cuddy for a DH or releaver. Span has done well and Gomez is still a very good defensive player who just needs time at the plate.

July 24, 2008  12:28 AM ET

There is nothing wrong with this team that a little more experience would not cure. Playing against a team like the Yankees (today 7-23-08) shows that they need to gel as they are and not add any further young egos or distractions. They consistently get work ethic from their players and since they are never considered a top contender they always have the mantra of underdogs. I appreciate the players and the scouting for their consistent message sent to these young players. My relative was vp of the twins and it never seemed cohesive back in the late 60's but now they generally love the game and back each other up like a real team does. I am proud of them, but after saying all that...they would do good to go after Josh Hamilton (only) he would fit into this team perfectly!

Well, Lamb or Everett are probably gone when Tolbert gets back, so whichever is left. Monroe is a possibilty as well and if Gomez gets sent down as I suggested, there's another spot. Plenty of options to make room for a power hitting right handed bat 3B... As far as what to trade, it'd have to be pitching, which they have a plethora of..
