Clemens case uncovers more players

Nearly five months after Congress asked the Justice Department to weigh perjury charges against Roger Clemens, federal authorities remained determined to expand the case beyond the testimony of Clemens's former trainer, Brian McNamee, according to a lawyer briefed on the matter. The lawyer said authorities wanted at least one other witness who could directly link Clemens to the use of performance-enhancing drugs, in part because of concern that any case built almost entirely around McNamee's assertions would be vulnerable to attacks on his credibility. In their search for that witness, federal prosecutors have focused on Houston, Clemens's hometown. And although it was not known whether investigators there had established any new links to Clemens, the lawyer said they had uncovered evidence connecting several other major leaguers to the use of performance-enhancing drugs. It was not clear how strong the evidence was or how many of these players were active. But federal authorities may question those individuals, the lawyer said, seeking to establish what knowledge they may have about Clemens and what they may know about drug distributors.

...So in other words...NOTHING NEW TO REPORT ON THE CLEMENS STORY.

SSooooo, what else is new? How does this surprise anyone?

Clemens does not care. I do not care. Told you so. It was Selig's league - still is. Cover-up by profiling. Think about it.

Oooh! It looks like they're about to uncover another guy selling the stuff out of the trunk of his car. I'm glad the government isn't wasting my tax dollars on things like trying to lower gas prices or catching tax cheats. Remember, it's in the national interest to know which old ballplayers took steroids.

Ooooh! It sounds like the government is about to bust another guy selling the stuff out of the trunk of his car. Remember, it's in the national interest to know exactly how many old ballplayers used steroids in the 90's. I'm glad the government isn't wasting my tax dollars trying to lower the price of gas or catching tax cheats.

July 23, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Wow.. so you mean Barry Bonds really DIDN'T invent steroids? Who knew?

Best line on the ESPYS awards... "Well Roger is not here tonight. looks like we will not see him for 5 to 10 years"

July 23, 2008  10:16 AM ET

B*nds is old news. I would rather ignore him, as I will with Roidger when his defamtion thingamawhatsit is done, but it just keeps going on and on. At least there aren't alot of Roidger defenders and we can all just bash him together.

July 23, 2008  10:27 AM ET

If this goes to trial before '09 Roidger will get pardoned by the other arrogant, mindless redneck from Texas.G.W.Bush
