Coughlin seeks out Torre, Wooden

What would the only Giants head coach not named Bill Parcells to win a Super Bowl championship say to naysayers? "What I would say is, 'That's a lot of garbage,' " Coughlin said swiftly in a telephone interview with The Post. "We did the things that were necessary to win week in and week out. We earned the world championship and no one can dispute that." And now, to give his team its best possible chance to repeat, with Michael Strahan in retirement and Jeremy Shockey in New Orleans, Coughlin has reached out to serial repeaters Joe Torre, manager of the Dodgers, and John Wooden, the legendary UCLA coach. Torre returned Coughlin's call Monday and talked about focusing forward and proving the quality of your team by "taking our play to a higher level," according to Coughlin.

The giants fell "a-s-s- backwards" into the playoffs, and caught the Patriots on their worst day. Chances are they won't repeat, and that's the way it is sometimes. You win when you shouldn't have. But hey, they won, so be it.

Do they have his phone tapped or something?

How do they know who he's called and who has returned his calls?

DEVO- not sure how much Gaints football you watched last year but to say that they fell into the playoffs is a bad statement. If you look at the way the Gainats were playing from about wk 10 on you could tell it was a different team from the start of the season. They should have beat the Patriots in wk 16 so I don't think it's a fluke that they beat them the second time.

I said they won didn't I? I gave them kudos for that, didn't I? So what's your point? Sometimes team(s) that win PROBABLY shouldn't have, but you still have to play the game...right? You lucked out against Green Bay (even match I will admit though) and like I said, the Giants caught the Patriots on a bad day. No harm, no foul. Just enjoy the title while you have it.

Did Torre also tell Coughlin to have your owner spend more than 50% more than any other team in your league on players salaries and for that owner to start his own television channel to subsidize that payroll? And did he tell Couglin to trade away your farm system midseason and collect eben more superstars from all the small market teams?

The media is sooo nosy..lol

You have to admire what Coughlin has done in four years. He took a team that was just a bunch of selfish whiners that quit on Fassel, turned the roster over ( Toomer excluded ) , made the play offs three strait years and won the Superbowl...With one of the youngest teams in the league....Truly remarkable.

The only thing that was **** backwards was princess brady during the superbowl. The D-line was incredicle and the cheatroits were exposed. Go Gmen!

What's LUCKED out? They BEAT the Cowgirls and outplayed the #1 seed in the playoffs, they BEAT the Packers IN LAMBEAU and the score should not have been even that close. And I suppoose they "LUCKED" out vs. the Pats too right? All the experts were saying (and everyone else) that the Giants had no chance. They BEAT them fair and square and there was no luck involved.
They beat the Pats whom the "experts" said was the best team ever.
You sound like a Cowboy, Packers, Bucs or Pats fan. Face it, they won in dramatic fashion, all on the road. # 1, #2 seed and best team of all time lost to the Champs. Can't get much tougher than that.

If your looking for a "serial repeater" Bill Belichick is only a phone call away !!!

Does not matter who you call, Coughlin. Nothing is going to help you and the Giants from going down in flames this year. What makes it so funny is that the Giants' front office thinks you are a good coach and extended your contract! HAHAHA, you really got one on over on them! I'm afraid your luck has run out.

Strange how every non-Giant fan writes them off this year. Oh well, somethings are only learned after many hard lessons.

July 23, 2008  02:58 PM ET

Oh yes, hard lessons Coughlin will be accepting a lot of pain from...

I'm a Patriots fan, but I think you're an idiot. The Giants beat the Cowboys in Dallas, beat the Packers in Green Bay, and beat the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl. They deserve the title. What the hell are you talking about?

July 23, 2008  06:12 PM ET

It is said that the NFL is comprised of 4 seasons: the off season, the pre-season, the regular season, and the post season..

The Patriots went 16-0, an unprecendented, phenomenal regular season. The Packers and Cowboys did exceptionally well, too.

Then the post season began. A new season. Everything changes.
Interesting facts:

of all post-season teams last year,
a) only one played four games (most durable)
b) only one won all it's games (most perfect)
c) only one triumphed over both conference #1 seeds (most proven)
d) only one was awarded lombardi trophy (world champions)
e) only one has the oppotunity to repeat in 2008

get over it and ****

And so it begins, oh, Great Fannation, so it begins. Prepare for combat. Sharpen your tongues as it will prove to be a tough year again and tangy tarts are not in the picture for you miscreants.
