05:52 AM ET 07.23 | Jorge Posada was told yesterday he needs surgery to repair a damaged right rotator cuff, but the battler hopes he can avoid the knife and contribute to the Yankees this season, The Post has learned. After being examined by Dr. David Altchek and undergoing an MRI exam at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Posada was told by Altchek that surgery was needed and would require a six-month rehabilitation process. If the surgery was done today, Posada may be ready in February. However, if Posada believes a few weeks off will allow him to contribute at the plate as the DH or first baseman - something he wasn't doing before going on the disabled list Monday - he may put off the surgery until October or November, then the beginning of next season is in jeopardy.
