Jorge Posada was told yesterday he needs surgery to repair a damaged right rotator cuff, but the battler hopes he can avoid the knife and contribute to the Yankees this season, The Post has learned. After being examined by Dr. David Altchek and undergoing an MRI exam at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Posada was told by Altchek that surgery was needed and would require a six-month rehabilitation process. If the surgery was done today, Posada may be ready in February. However, if Posada believes a few weeks off will allow him to contribute at the plate as the DH or first baseman - something he wasn't doing before going on the disabled list Monday - he may put off the surgery until October or November, then the beginning of next season is in jeopardy.

The Yanks are still winnng anyway they can, you have to still give them that. Sometimes when a team is put in a diffecult situation, they can still grind it out with the best of them. Not a "yank-it" fan, but if they keep playing like they are of late, it makes for good PR.

Just get the surgery. Have you not noticed how much trouble you're having at the plate with the bum shoulder? The team needs you healthy, not injured.

Jorge needs to go a head and get the surgery done with, he waits till the end of the season, its going to be into the next season before he can come back. The Yankee's are still winning with out him, Molina is great behind the plate, and i think if he plays every day he will start hitting too..

Do it, get it over with, move on.

Go under the knife buddy, get well for next season.

It's not in my b;lood to say anything good about the Yankees, but, I hope Posada is able to make a complete recovery !!!

July 23, 2008  01:56 PM ET

I hate the Yankees with a passion, but I have utmost respect for a human being like Jorge Posada. I hope he recovers and succeeds.

hey cards fan.....
clearly you have NO IDEA how important Jorge is to us. NOW
he more than any other hitter we have BALANCES the line-up.
He is UNREPLACEABLE in the line-up

We Yankee fans do not accept being good every so often
He can still help us even if his shoulder isn't good- he just needs to DH
or take time off for rehab- then he'll be back for the stretch run
he may not approach his #'s last year-
but I'd rather have him up in the clutch than some ham & egger we pick up off the scrap heap

You do realize he's hitting .214 since coming off the DL, right?

Rolen couldn't hit well with a bad shoulder. Posada can't hit well with a bum shoulder.

You are always the voice of reason and intelligence - KUDOS TO YOU !!!

Thanks Hub Man. I always wonder how much of the permanent damage to Rolen could have been avoided if he'd shut down and had it corrected earier.

You'll never know - but - I wouldn't be too disappointed having Glauss. He's having a very nice year !!! GOOD LUCK in St.L.. I go way back to the Bob Gibson days !!!

July 23, 2008  07:53 PM ET

Having Glaus is great. I underestimated him prior to the start of the year, especially his defense.

It's still sad to see what happened to Rolen in his prime. He was a tremendous talent.
