Hall of Famer Larry Robinson will not return to the Devils' bench as assistant coach next season, GM Lou Lamoriello told The Post yesterday. "It was his [choice]," Lamoriello said. "He did it for one year because we asked him to do it with Brent Sutter coming in." Lamoriello said Robinson will revert to his previous post as a special assignment coach.

Special assignment number 1 for the 'special assigment' coach...

Find us someone to replace Brodeur in net. You have five years to look.

Go.

The time to go fishing is just around the corner. Which brings me to another point...if Golf is listed as a sport....wheres the Bass fishing T&R? lol

July 23, 2008  07:07 AM ET

Here's a special assignment...find a way to NOT play the most boring hockey know to man.

July 23, 2008  07:08 AM ET

known that is

July 23, 2008  07:13 AM ET

This guy should leave the organization altogether. First he's the head coach who leads the team to a Stanley Cup, then he becomes an assistant, now this "special assignment." Next thing he'll be doing the team's laundry. He's like the mentally challenged guy a business keeps around to make themselves feel good.

And the sad part is, he SHOULD be a head coach somewhere.

BETTMAN S***S

I doubt he wants the pressure of a head coaching job. Remember he had those stress issues a few years ago. Big Bird has nothing left to prove..

July 23, 2008  09:09 AM ET

That's absolutely correct Peter. This is The Birds call and no-one elses. If he wanted a head coaching job he would get one. He seems to suffer under extreme stress...or maybe its just frustration...who knows, the point is he is quite content picking up his enourmours paychecks and bobbing along like a cork in a slow river.

July 23, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Larry is finding it too stressful to be an assistant to a ranting Sutter? How can that be?

July 23, 2008  09:36 AM ET

I'm sure he probably feels a bit slighted...as well he should.
Has Sutter ever won anything as a coach? (I'm sorry, I usually remember these things...need more tea)

IF YOULOOK IN THE DICTIONARY UNDER S***S, YOU KNOW WHO IS THE PICTURE

July 23, 2008  09:48 AM ET

Is it just me...or does Larry look like Popeye in that photo above?

That picture, right there, proves he needs out!

July 23, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Bauner, goot to hear from ya! Where you been? Yes, he does look like Popeye. Is that a can of spinach in his pocket, or is he just happy to see Brodeur?

July 23, 2008  09:59 AM ET

Spiny:
He didn't want to be a head coach any more because he couldn't handle the stress. If that's the case, he should stick to raising race horses and go into retire from hockey altogether.

Bauner, goot to hear from ya! Where you been....?

Baun-ded was on vacation in Newfoundland. They wouldn't let him leave. Said his passport was expired!

July 23, 2008  11:30 AM ET

That's OK, Lamoriello will take over. he does it all, that man!

July 23, 2008  12:12 PM ET

larry's got a good gig...I'm in the market for a special assignment type job if anyone knows of any.
