Pistons pondering trade for Artest

A second source close to the Pistons has indicated that Pistons are pondering a trade for Ron Artest. I'm not sure of the opinions of the Pistons powers-that-be -- namely team president Joe Dumars and owner Bill Davidson -- but it says plenty that the chatter surrounding the mere idea is spreading around them. And Dumars, for the record, may be glad this is getting out since he is reportedly tired of fans thinking he's sitting on his hands. The piece that gets it done here is Tayshaun Prince.

If you break up the core, it should be for a star, not a headache...

i think artest would fit well with the pistons... i'd like to see this trade happen. he may be a headache at times, but if he's on he's great for any team. i remember before the pistons got wallace, most people were saying how awful it would be to have him on the team and how much of a problem he was. i think if you are in the right system all the major issues will be neutralized.

In general, it's not a good idea to give up Prince. First, he is versatile and is as good on the defensive end as he is on offense. Second, he is a fan favorite and one of those players you like to see stay on the team for life.
Anyway, it looks as if Dumars wants to make some sort of trade in order to shake things up, if nothing else.
In that case, Artest makes _perfect_ sense. If Dumars wants to re-create a "Bad Boys" type of team, in reminiscence of his own playing days, then he should definitely get Artest. Tha pair of Rasheed Wallace and Ron Artest would make a _great_ start toward a "Bad Boys" team.

It also makes sense for Ron Artest to come to Detroit, since that's where he helped instigate that famous brawl (back in 2004?). Since he was with the Indy Pacers back then, and hence was hated by the Detroit fans, it would be good for him to _join_ the Pistons team and play for those same fans.
I'm giddy with the prospect of more brawls at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Heck, just yesterday, there was a big brawl between WNBA teams in that same building!
Moreover, Rick Mahorn - one of the Pistons' Bad Boys from the 80's - participated! (This time, he participated as a WNBA coach.)

I think it would be a good move for them...like when they got Rasheed...put them over the top..

You mean when he tried to restrain her, and she fell over...?

Wallace and a 1st rounder for Artest and Rahim/Thomas would be a good move

G-Billups/Stuckey (bad idea)
G-Hamilton/Affalo
F-Prince/Maxiell
F-Artest/Thomas
C-McDyess/Amir Johnson/Plaisted

The Pistons should bring in good players...not Ron Artest.

July 23, 2008  10:33 AM ET

I'm not sure on Artest coming to town... but for Tayshaun Prince??? Please NO!

July 23, 2008  10:34 AM ET

If they trade Prince, then Detriot's run is over.
Infact they need to build this team AROUND him. Make him a 20+ scorer; Run some set plays for him.
I would trade Wallace for Artest (If there's such an offer), maybe include Amir Johnson and also take Kenny Thomas's contract to please the maloofs

It would be interesting to hear owner Bill Davidson's thoughts on acquiring Artest. Davidson has always appeared to be an owner who appreciates character in a player or coach. Keep in mind that Larry Brown and Rick Carlislie were not fired for their performance rather because Davison questioned their character. Last night's slap fest at the Palace is sure to rekindle the Artest incident and that does not bode well for bringing Artest to Auburn Hills.

He isn't half the player prince is. If they give up TP for this mess they wont improve. Prince is their best perimeter defender, not to mention one of the best at it. Artest is a minor up grade to that at best. In all other catagories TP wins hands down, including embaracing a franchise

If they turn Prince into a 20+ point scorer that can defend well, aren't they just turning him into Ron Artest anyways?

July 23, 2008  11:36 AM ET

no way!! prince is too valuble, for artest. artest is not 100% dedicated ,and is getting up there to retiring, remember what he said a few years back.(he was thinking of retiring.) trade wallace,or draft picks, i remembe the red wings signed a hated colorado guy once (krupp?) and he did nothing. artest could be the same way-get the pistons (pay back-for fight ) and giving up prince would cost too dearly.

Kings would be better off with Lamar Odom than Tayshaun Prince.

I thought he was banned from Detroit forever because of his little antics... I still wish it was me that he hit everytime I see the highlights from that. I'd still be making it rain with his cash
