Eto'o's excessive salary demands

Samuel Eto'o's exit from Barcelona is becoming more difficult due to the player's excessive wage demands from interested sides and the club's inflated valuation. The Cameroonian striker has been told that he is not part of Pep Guardiola's plans for next season, but neither he nor the Blaugrana are making his departure seem likely. Arsenal's early interest quickly ended when Eto'o reportedly told Arsene Wenger that he wanted an incredible 10m-per-season to relocate to north London, according to Sport.

Hmmm! A greedy soccer player? How can that be? Shocking!

July 23, 2008  09:38 AM ET

Let's see if Kuruvichi in Uzbekistan meets his outrageous demands.

July 23, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Man, this dude is spoiled. Hey, I've never made millions, so I can't say I wouldn't be greedy, but come on, he's got to have reasonable demands. I have a feeling that even if someone paid him what he wants, he'll just do the typical thing and underperform next season, wherever he plays.

Only if Kuruvichi is able to take out a second mortgage on Uzbekistan!

Borat might not approve such move, though!

Borat's from Kazakhstan. The average Uzbeki makes about $2,283 a year salary. I think that would put Eto'o into the top 10% of wage earners.

Borat still wouldn't approve! Borat wouldn't want any of his cousins in the "stan" family impoverished by a greedy soccer player.

Hey, there are some NBA players who make double what he's asking. But then again, NBA players play twice as many games.

If soccer is the world's most popular sport, then I think the best players should be paid on par with the top athletes from other sports as well.

Go get ya money Eto'o

July 23, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Eto'oooooh oh! what? 10 milli is just enough to feed his family, according to LAtrell.

July 23, 2008  11:12 AM ET

Correction from my previous comment. I was thinking in terms of dollars. If he's asking for 10 Million Euros, that would put him on par with the top NBA athletes. And heaven forbid he's asking for 10 million British Pounds would make him about a $20 million dollar man.

$10 mill to kick a ball... maybe if they keep flashing numbers like that round, more American kids might pickup the game.

July 23, 2008  12:35 PM ET

football players make the same money.... so it doesn't matter how many games they play. And baseball players play more than anyone

July 23, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Kazakhstan friend of all except Uzbekistan.

July 23, 2008  02:13 PM ET

Replace the "t" with a "g" and you get Ego'o...

July 23, 2008  02:31 PM ET

Easy now. Before continuing on this Eto'o Bashfest consider that he's far from alone in making such exorbitant demands. At least he's proven his mettle in La Liga, and as a world class striker and has the numbers to prove it. So what is more laughable? Eto'o's wage demands or Adebayor requesting Arsenal pay him a similar salary to that of Henry (from when he was still at the Emirates), for one good season?

July 23, 2008  03:26 PM ET

True. The Kazakhs hate the Uzbekis. They have a tiny bone in their brain.

I know the Kazakh National Anthem according to Borat is a little offensive but I laugh so damn hard when I hear it.

July 23, 2008  03:34 PM ET

In all honesty I really cannot blame Eto'o. The only problem is that there is no team willing to meet the transfer price set by Barca and pay him. He's a world class player but there's no market.

Unless he goes the Uzbekistan route it looks like he is stuck with Barca.

Apples to Oranges my friend. There is nothing harder in the world than hitting off a major league pitcher. Football is slightly more physical and skill driven game than Soccer.

"Football is slightly more physical and skill driven game than Soccer". How come a sport that uses Hands (except field goal& kick off) is called FOOTBALL, does not make any sense. Don't forget the freaking time outs every 30 secs, and somebody runs for 10 yards and get tackled, off they go to the freakin sideline for gatorade break, oxygen break etc. Try running like Michael Ballack in the euro, played every game without getting substituted, or even better, the Italian captain Cannavaro, played every minuite of every game when they won the world cup now that is tough
