Can Kings lure Giguere from Ducks?

Only the Ducks and Kings can give Jean-Sebastien Giguere easy access to the doctors who operated on his son, Maxime, in April. The generous role that owners Henry and Susan Samueli played in that episode also resonates with Giguere. But the Kings have more cap room. Even if the Ducks could sign Giguere for $4.5 million, that's $17.5 million for Giguere, Pronger and S. Niedermayer in an overall budget that probably won't surpass $42 million.

Obviously they'll resign him. And it would be foolish for him not sign for the maximum money he can get. Giguere is a goalie who relies more on positional play and over sized padding then skill.

giggy loves the ducks he will stay

June 8, 2007  06:16 PM ET

With Jiggy the Kings will make the playoffs.

If Giggy is serious about winning, he will take a few less dollars to remain on a strong, young, ready to defend their ring Ducks squad rather than skipping to any other club, especially one in full rebuilding mode like the Kings. Take a cue from Devils players in the past (Stevens, Brodeur..) who took a bit less to win a couple of more rings instead of chasing dollars elsewhere (Bobby Holik anyone?).

I'll tell you guys right now, as a former Vancouverite, Brian Burke will not sign JS for top-flight money. He'll take his stacked defense and young guns, and pay Bryzlahoweveritsspelled substantially less...it may just be me, but I really find it hard to believe that Giguere is considered among the best in the game. But watching how Burke has operated over the years, look for him to offer JS a fair, but not outlandish (ie: the Isles) contract and tell him, as he told Trent Klatt, "If he wants and gets a better offer than that, I'll drive him to the airport myself."

If JS is smart, he'll take his 4 and defend the Cup.

And P.S. Rontheking, the Kings wouldn't make the playoffs in the West if the ghost of Terry Sawchuck was between the pipes.

I HOPE HE WILL BE DUCK NEXT YEAR, KEEP THIS GUY, USE BRYZGALOV TO SET UP GOOD TRADE AND GO FROM THERE. IF ITS NOT BROKEN WHY FIX IT. AND AGAIN, WITHOUT GIGGY, THEY WOULD NEVER NEVER HAVE THE CUP. THIS GUY WAS AWESOME AGAIN..... YOU KNOW YOU GOOD WHEN HASEK ADMITS HE OUTPLAYED HIM, I BEEN WATCHING HASEK GROWING UP IN CZECH AND HERE, HE IS NOT EXACTLY KNOWN TO SAY SOMEBODY WAS BETTER THEN HIM

June 9, 2007  10:09 AM ET

Kings, nah...Detroit wants him. Hasek wants to retire and go back to Czech Rep. and the wings need a good goalie. Why wouldn't he want to play w/ the Wings, biggest hockey market in the country, plus he doesn't have to throw away a shot at the cup by playing for the Kings.

June 9, 2007  11:01 AM ET

I dont think we want to pay the money he wants.............I personally want hasek and ozzie back.......................

June 9, 2007  09:38 PM ET

HASEK WANT IT TO STAY IN CZECH AFTER 02, HIS KIDS DIDNT REALY LIKE THAT MUCH, THEY WILL BE IN SCHOOL HERE AND I BELEIVE HIS WIFE WANTS TO BE HERE ALSO, AT LEAST THOSE WERE THE STORIES THERE, SO I DONT THINK THIS WILL BE MUCH OF A ISSUE
