Owner 'screwed up' Randolph firing

Mets owner Fred Wilpon told reporters Wednesday the Mets bungled the firing of Willie Randolph on June 16. He told Newsday at a gathering at SNY's television studios in Manhattan that the Mets should have waited until the morning after the team's game against the Angels, and not immediately after the game. "I know I screwed up," Wilpon said. "I should have said, 'wait a second.'" The Mets were roundly criticized for the manner in which they handled the firing, mostly because it was announced via a press release at 3:14 a.m. EST. Wilpon's comments were originally reported by Newsday.com earlier in the day.

Really? No one else had noticed Mr. Wilpon. Now you've bungled the admission to an error.

well if is was at 314 am i would say that is the morning. but if you mean waiting till 800 what is a couple of hours. i don't really think that you can blame some of the problems that the mets where having just on Randolph, i think its so funny that people thing that its the manaders fault that his multi-million dollar players can't hit the ball and or field it.

Well he got this right, a little late, does that even out the fact that he fired Willie a little early?

July 24, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Bring back Willie! In fact here is what New York needs to do in 2009 as a whole:

Bring back as head coach: Ray Handley, Willie Randolph, and Isaiah Thomas. No one cares about the Rangers.

Randolph still is with the Mets , he just coaches fist pumping now ...

FMSD...the collapse. Don't forget about the collapse. I bet your team hasn't. All I'm saying. It's just one game. Right now the Mets are a better team...but never forget about.....the collapse.
