Will Washburn veto Yankees deal?

If the Yankees can get Jarrod Washburn and get rid of Kei Igawa at the same time, that would be a double coup for them. But the finances may be trickier than first thought to pull of such a deal. And Washburn has a limited no-trade clause and can veto a deal to the Yankees barring an extension, which is another complication.

That's right. The Yankees are ALWAYS fiscally responsible. They NEVER go over budget when looking for current help.

Why would someone veto a deal to leave the worst team in baseball, to go to a team that will probably make the playoffs? Don't be stupid!

July 24, 2008  08:29 AM ET

If there's any truth to this rumour, it's a no-brainer. Get it done. And tricky finances have never been an issue for the Yanks, now have they?

July 24, 2008  08:43 AM ET

maybe he just doesn't want to be a Yankee...

July 24, 2008  08:50 AM ET

Igawa makes how much and for how long? I believe, that is the tricky finacial part. AND, Washburn is probably using his no trade clause to get an extension on his contract. duh, it says that right in the blurb.

July 24, 2008  09:11 AM ET

I'll be so pissed if some stupid team takes the Igawa albatross away from the Yankees.

July 24, 2008  09:30 AM ET

Not only getting rid of Igawa, but Washburn is one of the better options out there when you consider contract and what it takes to give up.

Damn it...not this again...

July 24, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Hyperrevue -- Sorry to hear you're about to be pissed but Igawa is outahere. I'd trade him for a bucket of used balls at this point but if we get Washburn in return I'd be jumping for joy.

I can't see Washburn saying no to the trade to a contender. You are talking about playing for the Yankees. History, Pride, Tradition.

Finances are not an issue for the Yankees so get the trade done and after that include Vidro in the trade to the Pirates for Nady.

July 24, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Him vetoing a trade from the Mariners to the Greatest Franchise in Sports History reeks of not having the stomach to play in NY. I hope that's not the case.

I complained about xiatou, therefore his comment is not here any more. Whalers is not just randomly hating on people. :)

July 24, 2008  09:45 AM ET

I don't think the Pirates would want a DH Buttman. lol

Although I do agree going from the M's to the Yanks sounds like a sweet deal.

simple answer....he has no ball$. Many a pitcher has come to the bronx amid great fan fare and has stunk up the joint.

July 24, 2008  09:57 AM ET

I agree that everyone wants to be a yankee... but NOT everyone can BE a Yankee.. there have been alot of players that have been great after leaving the Yankee's... some people have it and some don't, I don't think Washburn would be a good Yankee..

that reminds me...are the sox still paying Matt Clement? perhaps the yanks and sox could package the two for a case of Milwaukee's Best....but they'd probably have to settle for cans.
