Meyer's still ticked at Bulldogs

Urban Meyer is still ticked about Georgia's celebration. We know this because a forthcoming book quotes Urban Meyer as saying, "It was a bad deal. And it will forever be in the mind of Urban Meyer and our football team." Crocodile tears from a Gator. Boo and hoo. Named after a Pope, Urban Meyer is apparently under the impression that Urban Meyer is a saint. Never mind that Georgia was appropriately penalized - two personal fouls, the combination requiring a kickoff from the 8-yard-line. Never mind that Urban Meyer's team is such a stickler for rules that it ranked next-to-last nationally in penalties in 2006 and 113th among 119 Division I teams in 2007. Never mind that Mark Richt has apologized repeatedly for a prescribed bit of emotion that turned into a team-wide ad lib. Urban Meyer is still so ticked as to feel the need to refer to Urban Meyer in the third person, which as we know is the height of humility.

Crybaby Gator!

July 24, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Gee, I wonder what will develop on this thread...

July 24, 2008  09:10 AM ET

He never ever ever talks about his team getting styled on by the LEADERS and BEST in the Citrus bowl.

Painful memories huh?

July 24, 2008  09:11 AM ET

So has the timetable run out on his offense in the SEC? Should be about time to move again....

July 24, 2008  09:28 AM ET

All coaches do this, not just Urban Meyer. Anything to make the other team look bad, especially the Bulldogs.

They apologized and were penalized appropriately. Urban does need to let it go.

Look at it from the Bulldogs perspective, they have only won 3 out of the last 18 meetings. It's like if the Lions were to win the superbowl, or hell, even go to the Superbowl. You can't expect them not to celebrate.

I'll give Georgia this one.

July 24, 2008  09:37 AM ET

I thought is was funny!! Lighten up Urban and use this as motivation for this season, but word to the Gator players dont repeat the same thing UGA did it first you would only look ridiculous

July 24, 2008  09:45 AM ET

1 - The majority of the penalties from 2006 and 2007 were false starts. NOT unsportsmanlike penalties.

2 - I kind of read that as more of Florida being a favorite and allowing that one thing to get them off their game completely and thus it will be kept in the "things to make sure don;t happen again" vault.

July 24, 2008  10:06 AM ET

After Media Day yesterday Florida really thinks Georgia is the only roadblock to the National Championship so he is going to burn that image in their heads. Phil Trautwein said they had say that video over 100 times!!!! I think it is outstanding when you have these types of rivalries in college football, they are great for the game.

July 24, 2008  10:07 AM ET

He said they saw that video. Sorry about the grammar.

July 24, 2008  10:13 AM ET

I'm glad all of this lack of class is happening in the SEC.

July 24, 2008  10:31 AM ET

I agree with Big Gator. It's called a rivalry for a reason, and all is fair in love and war. Urban's doing his best to get his team fired up for the next cocktail party.

If watching that video gets the Gators fired up, then the bulldogs should watch "This is why UGA football sucks." on youtube.

July 24, 2008  10:32 AM ET

that video was posted by a Gator for the record.

July 24, 2008  10:37 AM ET

He's just mad cause he has some real competition in the SEC and nothing is handed to him like it was in Utah.

July 24, 2008  10:40 AM ET

On a side note, nobody on any SEC save Vanderbilt can read this article.

July 24, 2008  10:41 AM ET

SEC team, that is. oops, I went to Kentucka for a day, looks like stupid rubs off. :(

July 24, 2008  10:44 AM ET

Like I haven't heard that one before Check McDeltoids. "SEC fans are dumb rednecks who can't read." Real original. Got a little bit of the football envy?

July 24, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Whine, whine, whine, would Urban like some cheese with all his whine.

He is the whiniest coach in all of college football. He needs to step up and be a man if he wants to coach a man's sport. All his whining makes him sound like a 5 year old little girl.

July 24, 2008  10:48 AM ET

I love it when people have no college preference in their profiles disrespect other schools or conferences, then they have no way for anyone to slam them. It???s either Fannation staff kicking up dust to get us talking or an 11 year old just being dumb.

July 24, 2008  10:53 AM ET

It wasn't very professional of Richt to ask his players to do what they did, or adult of the players to follow through to the extent that they did. We have to keep in mind that these are kids who are playing a game, but are under pressure by us, the fans.

NWPA, did you see Illinois celebrating on the Buckeye logo? Unsportsmanlike celebrations happen everywhere.

July 24, 2008  10:58 AM ET

HAHA dude who wrote this article?? It is so one sided against Urban Meyer you would think KNowshon Moreno has a summer job at SI.
