Rockies interested in Arroyo

Looking to add instead of subtract, the Rockies have shown interest in Cincinnati right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo to fill the vacancy in the rotation. A key factor is that the multiyear contract Arroyo originally signed with the Reds is backloaded, and he is guaranteed $23 million during the next two seasons. The Reds have indicated a willingness to pick up part of the salary if the teams could agree on the personnel.

Not a good idea. Rockies should use their prosepcts on someone else. Certainly not him.

Yeah, I don't like this trade. He is an overrated pitcher. Why don't we wait til Jeff Francis comes back next week and gauge his first start? Honestly, I think that Jorge De La Rosa and Glendon Rusch are doing well enough that we don't have to overpay a ton of money for a guy that had one good year.

I'm surprised other teams aren't interested. Pitching is thin, and the Reds probably wouldn't ask for much.

The Reds would have to eat a great deal of his salary - like almost all of it. His ERA has been climbing a full run per year for the last two years. 11.5 mil for a 5.6 ERA is not that appealing.

He's actually having a decent year. His inflated ERA is due to some really really bad outings at the beginning of the season. He's been money latey, winning 5 straight stars and allowing only 11ER total in those games.

Agree with Phil. 2 bad outhings have greatly increased his ERA, but he's 5-0 with a 3.19 ERA in his past 5 starts. I hope the Reds deal him though, to free up money, and his value right now's about as good as its gonna get.

The 5 games prior to that he gave up 25 runs in 21.3 innings which is a shame because he'd gotten his ERA all the way down to 5.9 before that bad run started. Don't get me wrong, I'd give him a chance for about 1/4 or less of what he is making.

He's an innnings eater that at times can be brilliant, other times not so much. He would be a nice addition to any team as a 3 or 4 starter, but me thinks his contract may be inflated for that role.
As always with the Reds, if they trade a starting pitcher, they hardly have anyone that can step into his shoes.
It seems the only AAA pitching is Bailey and Thompson. Both of whom are just not ready. They don't even have a semi-decent vet that can step up.
